Knife displays

Thanks everyone for the comments on my first attempt at a plaque and I think the Pith Helmet is going into a closet.

This is a 11" X 14" wood frame with a 1/8" thick wood back panel. It was intended for someone to paint on the other side like a painter's canvas but I'm thinking of staining the frame part, laying in some royal blue felt that I have and then mounting some knives in it. If anyone has some other ideas or suggestions please post them. The frame cost $3.00.

I wish I knew! Nn tang stamp. Handles & bolsters 1 piece;bolsters covered w/ a thin gold sheet;handles engraved & gold washed;whittler pattern w/Wharncliffe master blade. Blade pivot pins are screws. Looks very old.

I've posted pics of it here before but can't remember where. I'll get it out of the display & try to get some decent pics(hard to do with my phone camera).

Okay I stained two of these but I've only mounted knives on one so far. I think the knives look
good but my wood burning skills will need some more practice. Not sure what knives I'm
going to mount on the other one.
Looking for some constructive criticism, because for some of us (me) that's the only way
we improve. Thanks.

Those look terrific David! I like the unfinished wood look, but there's no denying the rustic look is great too! Very nice, wanna build about 50 of them for me? LOL!

I would but not at today's prices of wood! Here at Lowes a single sheet of 1/2" plywood is $27.98 and that's with my military discount.

LOL! I was just teasing buddy, that would amount to a lot of work and expense that certainly can't be afforded with our current economy, but thanks for accepting just the same! It was when you'd said $3.00 for the frame that tempted me, but at $28.00, that's outta my league!

I would cover those displays with glass or clear plexiglass. I bought a huge collection of knives over 10 years ago and there were several of the early Case Collector’s Club knives in there. The early displays were nothing more than the size of a plaque and an area notched out to hold one knife, some even had notching to allow the blades to be displayed open. Looked great. But took up a huge amount of wall space. The other problem with them was that the knives got covered in dust and air borne grease from cooking over decades. You can imagine how difficult it was to clean off 40 years of air borne grease and dust. That’s one reason I only use displays with a cover.
The displays look great by the way.

Thank you for your comments. I thought about that but in this case the knives or knife handle is not below the rim of the edging so a piece of plexiglass would not sit flush. That's why going forward I think I will use the shadow boxes instead so you can close them behind glass or for some continue using the floating frames.

I finally got my CASE Collectors Club and AAPK annual knife plaques finished with room for more knives.
Then all the ones that I've done so far on the wall.

Well, this is nothing unique or awe-inspiring, but I found a new glass-topped display cabinet in a thrift store today for $6, and decided to put my Scout knives in it. I am a proud Eagle Scout, and love to collect Scout knives.
Many of these are unofficial, and I have several others that are in my "to be restored" pile, but it is a start!

Now, the challenge will be to convince my wife to let me display these in the Living Room!
