OLD CASE RED STAG

How do you define "red stag"? If Case makes it and calls it That's o.k. But I see a lot of so called red stag on e-bay that I don't consider red. Here is a pic. of an original Cheetah that some would call red stag. But only one handle is red. I reckon my question is where do you draw the line on older case stag?

From looking at that picture, it looks like that red color may have bled onto that back handle (from a knife roll or display box?). Most Case collectors believe that the use of true red stag ended in the early XX era. That knife looks like it has a surface red tint not the deep red color of the older red stag. Jut my opinion based on a picture.

If that's what's happened, he needs to roll it over and let the mark side take on a little color too. The red side is much nicer looking IMO.

Here is a 5354xx usa Trapper, but not quite red. But i like it.

I don't know what happened to the knife in question (cheetah), but I have personally handled knives that I believe were dyed Red way after they left the factory. Red Stag, Red Bone, Mint, Muskrat Blade, are probably the most overused terms I hear concerning Case knives.
