Anyone have Discord?

I’ve seen several groups that have discord, I’m just always reluctant to down load social media apps. I don’t have any now, and I’ve seen most of them in terms and services have access to almost all your contacts, pictures ect… . I’m just not a fan of their data mining practices(I know Google/YouTube do it too).

yeah I understand where you come from, I own the app because that's where I socialize with online friends.

I get it , my wife has Facebook for her business and a personal and I look at it from time to time but I just haven’t been to drawn to getting social media. That said I do have Reddit which I’m sure is as invasive as any other.

Seems folks are fed up with the older apps like Facebook, Twitter, etc. and gravitating toward more focused groups of like-minded people. There are a bunch of similar new apps that let you form your own social “group” now. GroupMe is one example I know of that focus on communication between members of a particular club or group. There are some like SportsYou and TeamReach that focus on teams. I’m sure there are others that are similar, and there will no doubt be more to come.

I have used Discord several times. My oldest daughter and I used to do a podcast together, and had some online interactions with other podcasters on Discord. We then moved to recording our podcast together off of Discord itself (she lives in another state, so we never did an in-person recording). It did allow some fans to interact and listen live.
I personally found it confusing and counter-intuitive to use, compared to Social Media apps like Facebook. I think it began as a way for gamers to communicate online, and grew from that with little cohesive planning, so it "outgrew" it's programming.

I used it, but I never liked it.

I don't know what Discord is either. I assume it's another kind of Facebook. I ditched social media about 7 years ago and do not miss anything about it at all. Prefer forums like this one, where people of like mind share a common interest. If friends and family wants to stay in touch they have my number and can always give me a call.
