Thanks marco. I was pleased with how those scales looked... and they feel great in hand.

Thanks all. That edge area is a weak point. They're a dead match except for the clip and spear. O'.

Great knives everyone! Here are a couple Bear & Son Damascus Jumbo Trappers in Abalone and Ivory (I hope?). Does anyone know for sure if they used genuine ivory on these?

Re: Matchng Pairs
I don't know if that's ivory, but should be if it was billed as such. I would like to see the other side too. You can see better in person than us in pictures, but there should be some grain visible and a deep visible luster that plastic and bone don't have. I hate to even mention this to guys with fine looking knives, but I carve ivory as a hobby. It has a smell to it that for lack of a better term smells like Elephant B.O. or maybe a musky smell. You can take some really fine sandpaper, like 7000 or 5000 grit and just touch a tiny area of it, very little sanding. The dust that comes off on the paper will smell as described and not like anything else you have ever smelled. But on beauties like that I can relate if you don't want to do that. Otherwise you can get some good close up pics with a film loop or magnifying glass and show them to us. Should be some visible grain that gives it away, although not always depending on the way they cut the slabs and where on the tusk they came from. Also there is a feel to ivory that you won't get with plastic or bone. You should know what plastic feels like, bone is a bit different, and ivory has a warmth and smooth, solid feel that plastic won't. But it looks good from your pics as far as I can see. Especially around the pins you can see in to the ivory a bit and see the dark area next to the pin. This is not a fail safe, but without handling or smelling, it's hard for me to tell. Good luck with it and hope it's real.knifeaddict1965 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 11, 2022 10:49 pm Great knives everyone! Here are a couple Bear & Son Damascus Jumbo Trappers in Abalone and Ivory (I hope?). Re: Matchng Pairs
Thanks for the info. I-Man! I may try to get some better pictures in a couple days when I have time. Unfortunately, my camera isn't the best for capturing details. Guess it's time for an upgrade if I'm going to keep posting knife pics.

Re: Matchng Pairs
Your pics look pretty good to me. Just thought maybe a close up or something might do the trick on the ivory. But hey, not bad at all. And great looking knives you posted. Yeeeaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh.knifeaddict1965 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 13, 2022 12:42 am 20220910_001055.jpg

Yes indeed. Beauties all. Photos look pretty good to me, too. My advice: Save your camera upgrade money for another knife.

Re: Matchng Pairs
Thanks for your replies I-Man & Q! Here are a few closer shots that may help.
If the pictures are clear enough, I appreciate any comments you may have as to whether or not it is genuine ivory. I think I only paid like $30 a piece when I got these two a few years ago, so I'm happy with the purchase either way.
