This was found in a lovely old odds and sods shop , it was in a box of tools and files . I was curious as I thought I’d seen something like it somewhere in the back of my mind but what and where still escapes me . So if anyone else has an idea I’d love to hear it as it’s been bugging me for the past month .

Could it be a re-handled bayonet blade? Trench art?

No markings that I can find the handle has no visible way it’s been attached other than a hidden braising , in my mind I had heard of cutlery makers during wartime sometimes turned their skills into making fighting knives for private purchase, as this knife has a cutlery feel and look to the handle. So I’m still none the wiser as of yet but you could be correct too it has a 7inch blade

Yes there’s much to think about as this knife also has blade width of 3/4 of an inch and blade thickness of 1/8 of an inch which I think is more dagger size blade than bayonet but as we have found this knife leaves a lot more questions as it’s been well made not amateurish .

I really like your knife and what comes to mind for me is it's a "Theater" knife, which I believe are knives built specifically for using in the movies and are made so as to make it difficult for the actor to hurt themselves and aren't of any particular quality. I see lots of them and they're usually in the same condition as yours. I'm getting this vibe from the crudely made guards. Whatever it's purpose, wherever it came from, I like it!

Huh?Theater knives are knives made by soldiers in the " theater of action" aka War.

Well thank you for the correction Roger, I had read they were made for the movies and along with they're crude appearance it made sense to me. The examples I've seen looked like their blades were dull which only helped confirm my beliefs. Ya learn somethin' new everyday and my apologies for posting inaccurate info!

I'd wager your knife was made in theater by someone inspired by a Fairbane-Sykes Commando knife. I don't mean an attempt to copy it but just inspired by it. It's the proportions of the handle that struck me. Never mind the S guard.
