G. Pflaumer Oehringen Knife Question
I bought this knife on an auction and can’t find much info on it also. Would it be German? Any help is much appreciated!

Re: G. Pflaumer Oehringen Knife Question
Ohringen (Oehringen) is a town of about 24,000 in southwestern Germany. The travel info and history does not mention any knife makers. Oddly your knife spells the town name with an "Oeh" whereas everything I read says "Oh".????? Maybe they changed it from the "old" German? Anyway, it's a nice piece, probably a small maker. J.O'.

Re: G. Pflaumer Oehringen Knife Question
The name of the town is likely Öhringen. Alternate spellings with an E, such as Oehringen, are commonly used when presenting a German name to someone who isn't used to the umlaut (the two dots over a letter). I hope that made sense.Ridgegrass wrote: ↑Sat Jul 16, 2022 7:01 pm Oddly your knife spells the town name with an "Oeh" whereas everything I read says "Oh".????? Re: G. Pflaumer Oehringen Knife Question
Gotta love an umlaut! Danke.
When my brother took German in high school, 1962, the books still used the what they called the "old" style German printing. I don't see that much anymore. Do you known what I'm referring to? A very stylized font? J.O'.

Re: G. Pflaumer Oehringen Knife Question
Correct. "Oe" is the Angicized version of the German vowel "Ö" (note the umlaut symbol, two small dots over the letter) for which there is no other equivalent in English.

On another note, you have found a great old German piece. Very unique and unusual. Nice addition to any collection. Wrap it up. It’s also a great conversation piece.

Nice old knife, probably late 1800's to very early 1900's. Here's a little history (you should have a translate feature somewhere on your browser):
