The Stockman pattern seems to have a blade for most occasions. I always seemed to gravitate to the Trapper pattern but have found the sheep foot just makes a Trapper better.

Brother Phillip, you just need a trapper that is a stockman! The Western 743.

Yes Sir! That one has the full length spay and a healthy sheep foot.
Wade, that Western makes me wonder if there are other makers with a long spay blade and clip on the front end of a Stockman like yours?

There’s the Western 746. Its the same as the 743 only with a punch instead of a sheepsfoot.

I don’t know if there are any other makers who ever did that out not. I will say when I was actively tracking down this set that the 743 was the hardest to find. Matter if fact this is the I Lu one I’ve ever seen. So I’m not sure how many even Western actually made.

I have quite a few stockman, but my favorite is this 3 and 7/8" bone Brantford from about 1915.

Another of my favorite stockman is this Kutmaster 4 blade that I picked up at a fleamarket for $1 because the handle material was bad. I redid it in elk stag.

Had this one in my store for a couple of hours and it was snapped up. A.G. Russell designed this stockman. India stag handles with BG-42 stainless steel. I love the curved cutting surface on this clip blade and the small Spey blade would get so much use in my hands. Hated to let that one go.

Parker Eagle Brand

Buck 301 which has been rebuilt. I was given this after it met an accident and the bolsters, liners, and handles were destroyed. I used the springs and blades to make this custom with snakewood handle material.

Kutmaster from the $1 knife bin at the fleamarket because the master blade was broken. I made this new blade because I always wanted a Wharne-man, or is it a stock-cliffe?

Mark that is some early Winter bottom bone from the Case and sons era.
