Re: What makes a good or bad knife review
I think you covered the subject quite well, Bladesman. I particularly wish to see reviews with the knife in action, i.e. cutting something. One thing that annoys me a bit is those reviewers who spend minutes showing the knife being unboxed. I guess for many that is important. I just don't get it.
I hope more of our members will subscribe and like your YouTube reviews so that you can build your channel.
I am guessing you are English or Australian. I hope you have a video in which you introduce yourself to your viewers.

Anymore, I only do that if I'm providing first impressions, as packaging can have an effect on my first impression. For brands that I already have a favorable impression of, unboxing just gets repetitive.Quick Steel wrote: ↑Mon Jun 13, 2022 1:45 pm One thing that annoys me a bit is those reviewers who spend minutes showing the knife being unboxed.

I don't watch many knife reviews, but there is nothing more annoying than when some idiot spends 10 minutes opening the the package.

Agree. Unboxing may give the owner a thrill the first time seeing it, but
does nothing afterwards for the owner or any time for the viewer.
Also don’t go into detail the exact length of each blade and weight.
Do show a lot of enthusiasm in showing your knife. Speak clearly, use
good photographic skills, DO NOT play music in the background while
speaking, and do not be afraid to compare it with your other brands.
A polished presentation does not come easy. Skill, time, and equipment
all come in to the picture.
Just my opinion.

Re: What makes a good or bad knife review
One of my biggest pet peeves regarding knife reviews is when the reviewer(s) opens and closes a folding knife consistently. I watched a review where some dude opened and closed the knife 17 times in two minutes.
So annoying.
If a reviewer opens and closes a knife more than 5 times in 30 seconds...I stop watching. It's as if the reviewer is now 'showing off' his dexterity skills of opening / closing the knife. Stop...just stop already.

Re: What makes a good or bad knife review
A knowledgeable reviewer. I’ve seen too many reviews where the reviewer really has no clue what they’re talking about. If necessary, do some homework before making the video. If there were instructions or other paperwork that came with the item, read them first before making the review. I’ve seen and read reviews of items wherein the reviewer condemned the item but obviously never read the directions on how to use it.
Separate fact from opinion. For example things like walk and talk are subjective. If you don’t like the pull say so, but state it’s your opinion. For example “hard to open” is an opinion. It’s fine to say “I find it hard to open”, or “The spring is a little strong for my liking”. That’s a fact. Don’t say “The spring is too strong.” - that’s an opinion. (“It broke my fingernail” is also a fact).
It’s too big, it weighs too much, the blade is too long, etc are all opinions - someone else might not agree, depending on what they like or their planned use for the knife. It’s too big for the pocket, it gets in the way of my keys and my change. That’s your opinion - I may carry the knife in my back pocket, or watch pocket, or………
It’s your review, and your thoughts and opinion. Fine, just say so. Don’t condemn or glorify the item as if your review is the be all and end all.

Re: What makes a good or bad knife review
One thing I really dislike is loud and overly dramatic music being played at the start of the video. If it is intended to draw me in, it's a big failure. Makes me think I'm getting ready to watch some professional wrasslin'.

Re: What makes a good or bad knife review
Opening a box to a knife you have never seen or handled before is not a review,
it is a first impression, or the first impression .
Without using the knife for its intended purpose over a period of time, you have not reviewed anything.
You provide an inane and pointless opinion.
And that, my fellow knife enthusiasts, is my inane and pointless opinion . . .

Exactly correct. The best reviews are from someone who has used it and can comment on
everything.

p.s. I feel bad for any members who do additional knife reviews on youTube. The bar is now set high
but will make the review so much better

Re: What makes a good or bad knife review
That's why I consiser myself a presenter rather than a reviewer. Some of the knives seen on my channel were purchased with the intent to keep them nice and unused. I think I've done all of one actual proper review.
