Scammer??

Post by galvanic1882 »

I got 2 PM from a member that looks like they joined today is handle is jill90. I posted that I was looking for knives marked Attica or Vallet Falls plus awhile ago I posted that I was looking for a KK stockman. This person said they had the knives that I was looking for and to contact him.

Here is his email, [email protected]

Anyone know this person or get any messages from him??

That's hilarious! If they’re going to work a scam, the least they could do is read the entire thread. I think ole’ jill90 shouldn’t quit her day job.

Jill, or Mike, or whoever she/he/it is, just joined the forum this morning, hasn’t posted in my wanted thread, and invites me to email for pics and more info. Doesn’t pass the sniff test, sorry.

Maybe I should post a Wanted To Buy ad for a Thingamajiggywatchamacallitt. I'll bet he's got one of those too. ::watching_you::

Sounds like a scammer. One that isn’t very good at it. I only buy from vendors on AAPK that are established sellers for a good while. I’d also never buy from anyone that sent me an unsolicited message. I’ve bought from Kennedy, Knives Templar, Muskratman and several others. All were accurate in description, shipped quickly and overall, excellent to deal with. There are many others here that I’d buy from but never a new member and never from someone who claims to have everything. Buyer beware. And thanks for kicking a suspicious seller off the website.
I can honestly say I’ve gotten all great knives on this site.

This member jill90 tried to scam me out of $220. They replied to one of my ISO/WTB (in search of/wanted post) via: private messaged me, stating he had the knife I was looking for and asked me to email him at: [email protected] He sent me a picture of the knife and asked for $220. via zelle. I noticed he used the same picture I had used in my thread, once I realized it was the same picture I had used in my post, I started looking into his profile and he had 0 post. I asked the person to send me more pictures with a piece of paper next to it with "time and date stamp" and their email address. Never heard back from him. This is the email address he asked me to send funds to via zelle: [email protected]

Freaking jerk got me all excited. I knew it was to good to be true... I hope no one fail for her/his scam.

Advise, any new member selling anything here with an outside link is a scammer. Unless you know who is selling, or asking to buy have nothing to do with them. Better to be safe than sorry. ::nod:: ::nod:: ::nod::

Good day mate. I hope that’s the proper greeting for an Australian, if not I’ve been watching too many Steve Irwin re runs. Great advice you gave in your post. I’ve purchased a few here from Kennedy knives and they all were excellent as well as the service. I met him at an annual exhibition done here at a knife shop about a year later. He had one I was drooling over but he didn’t take credit cards. He wrote down his address, told me to take it and mail him the payment ! Of course I sent it to him the very next day. The majority of members and sellers here are terrific people. I hate to see scammers degrade this site. The scammer that people complained about was barred by an administrator.
I am thankful for the thieves being banned from this site ! Thanks Phil for helping to keep up the integrity of AAPK !

I can't remember, but i think i purchased a knife from Kennedy Knives a fair while ago, well before Covid, and either he or whoever else it was were fantastic. So if shipping and conversion were not so expensive i would be gladly spending some cash here from some of the sellers, they all appear decent people to do business with. Take care over there, and we are not all like Steve Irwin.   ::tu::

Yup fellers, be mighty careful who you open links, do business with!

Online crime is now the #1 crime world-wide. Everybody is a target of crooks, it's so easy to get hit by them. Do everything you can to protect yourself (VPN, Antivirus, Encrypted Email/Browser).
If you aren't 100% sure about something, run!

If you don't have good antivirus with online protection, it's super easy to get hi-jacked. Just ask the boss, Brian, the tech expert. He can tell you all kinds of horror stories, of good hardworking people, getting wiped out computer, & financially. It's pretty rough when one starts to dig a little... ::undecided::

Willy, excellent advice. I have used vpn for years. I use Nord. Norton and McAfee aren’t very effective. I use Avast. Also, I purchased my own internet domain ($15 a year) for my email to reduce spam. It also allows you aliases so my main address is only for friends. If I purchase anything online I use an alias. Goes to same mailbox but in separate folder so I can delete all the spam. For encrypted email I recommend Proton mail. It’s not only free but based in Switzerland which has strict privacy laws. The also store nothing on their servers !

Oscar, what do you think I'm here on...

10/10 recommend Proton!
Their integrated suite of privacy focused VPN/Email/Drive/Encryption is the best in the biz. Their main servers are buried 300ft below the Swiss alps.
Even @ the end of the world, they'll still be ticking along fine.
:D

Norton's crap! We in tech always recommend you steer clear of them, they log your data... :|

Nords ok, Express is ok.

Bitdefender has a new VPN out, I have to see how well it integrates with the security.

Malwarebytes is very good anti-virus. Highly recommendable!

My personal favorite, what I recommend, & what I deal: Bitdefender
They're literally the best in the world,
@ Extremely fair prices!

Honestly, as long as you go anything better than free Avast/Norton, you should be good.

You just want to make sure it comes with internet protection. Because that's your first line of defense against baddies. Email security is also a nice kick.

Thanks Willy ! I was unaware that Proton has a suite of mail encryption and vpn and drive encryption. I’m going to buy bitdefender on your recommendation. I also use a firewall.
You can’t get enough protection in this day and age. I use DuckDuckGo for search engine and no Google. They are the worst choice.
