Bummer!

I jabbed my hand with a gouge and had to get a few stitches! It hurt!

The wood I was working on broke and went below my index finger. I patched it up last night, but went to the doc today and he said I needed it stitched. Kinda' had a feeling he was going to say that

I can relate TM...I've done that a couple times myself, I think they are called Palm Gouges cause' they end up in our palms...I started wearin' a carving glove, just to play it safer. Hope you heal up fast.

First stiches I ever got in my life was from an X-acto knife while I was carving an elephant. I later found out it was bad luck to have an elephant with its trunk hanging in the down position. You guessed it, I was carving it in the down position. I'm not a superstitious man but I told my wife to sell that thing at her next garage sale.

Pulled the stitches out a week or so ago and got around to more or less finishing the piece that caused all the trouble - This thing fought me all the way Besides the hand, two of the links broke off

That's good info about the elephant trunk, gunsmoke!

*Make note to self..... elephant trunks up and wear gloves

There's a pic of the stitches for those that like the gory stuff - don't try jamming palm gouges in your hands at home kids!

Glad to see yer finally healin' up there TM. That ball and chain came out great, and smoke is right, it ain't easy doin' those, takes patience and a sharp knife. Looks like you have both !

Ain't NOTHING slower to heal than a cut to palm area of a hand. Or at least it sure seems that way. Had my hands stitched up in a similar fashion a couple of times but not from whittlin on wood. Mainly from not being smart enough to NOT have it there in the first place or bein just a bit slower than the dog that was gnawing on me.

I did fix the dog where he can't whistle any more. He lost a couple of front teeth in that fracas. He never tried to gnaw on me again after that. I guess he didn't like the taste of boot leather as much as he did my hand. 9 stitches dead center in the palm of the left hand is no fun. It was my sister's dog too.

Wullie - wounds on the hand suck for sure ..... all it takes is a bad slice on your thumb or fingertip to remind you how much you use your hands.

I got bit by a rottweiler when I was a kid. I've got no love for a dog that bites!
