Case Railsplitter (3299 1/2) In New Duds
I recently fished this railsplitter off the bay and just got finished giving it some TLC. Fortunately, the seller must have removed most of the outgassing celluloid some time ago (or maybe it just fell off in chunks) and even left the shield in place. (First 2 pics.) But, I was concerned about how much damage there damage there might be to the metal surfaces. I have restored a lot of knives with outgassing celluloid and have learned the hard way that you can't tell how much damage there really is until you get to work on them. Once I got this one apart and cleaned up, I was totally amazed to find absolutely no damage, and the blades are in amazing, unused condition, and even have the original factory edges. I couldn't see putting anything but fat stag on this big boy!

Sensational save Herb!
I can't imagine it without the stag covers, they fit that knife perfectly. I've always been curious about what exactly "outgassing" looks like, so thanks for providing those pictures!
