These aren’t pets, but here is a picture of a robin’s nest on our porch. Yes, that is a weed whacker they built their nest in. Didn’t discover the nest before she laid two eggs so I guess we are done weed whacking until they hatch and fly away. I think this is pay back for us tearing down a nest they were trying to build on our front porch on the window sill above the door. Now we get screeched at when we open the back door, it’s just going to get worse when the chicks hatch. Oh and she laid two more eggs a day or two later. It’s going to be a long spring.

Sorry to hear of your loss Charlie. A hard thing for sure. You will all be together at some point.

We had to put our sweet girl down in April, extremely difficult for us all. I have had malamutes for the last 20 years of my life. Finding it difficult without my friend here.

Fine photos of your beautiful malamute. So sorry for your loss. Loss of a beloved pet is one of life's most painful experiences.

Thanks QS, she did more wilderness miles and climbing than most people would do in a lifetime. So many memories, met my wife 14 years ago and we went and picked her up that summer. Had a male malamute at the time, he died in 2016. They are together again, we will spread their ashes in the Scapegoat Wilderness of MT, where we had so many good times.

Montanaman, I can assert with total conviction that in the next life we will again interact with our loved pets.

How so? If you will go to the Off Topic threads and find "The Dogs Above." Mine is the first entry and recounts the events that have never left me in doubt about the spiritual nature of dogs, their providential role in our lives, and that our bonds will not be broken by death. Our reunions with them, while not the greatest of our joys after this life, will nonetheless add to our happiness and their bliss.

Sorry about your loss Kris. It’s hard to lose them.

Poor Mazie got a snakebite sometime night before last. Most likely from a copperhead. Yesterday morning the left side of her head was about the size of half a soccer ball! ::woot:: Other than shaking her head a lot she didn’t seem to be in any distress. Think it scared my wife and me more than anything. We took her to the vet, who recognized it immediately for what it was, but took blood and ran tests, etc. After injections of steroid, antibiotics, and antihistamine, said she’d be as good as new in a few days. Also have to give her steroid and antibiotic pills for several days.

The swelling has decreased significantly already. Wish I had thought to take her picture yesterday but here she is today.

Sorry to read of your loss Kris. I’m still grieving the loss of my two in the past couple of years. It’s so hard losing a dog that is your friend, family member and buddy.

Ken, glad to hear a snake bite isn’t always a fatality for a dog. It would have worried me too.

Ken, sorry Mazie was bitten. Our GSD was bitten by copperheads twice last year, once on the front paw, and once on his hip. Both times in the back yard. We gave him some benadryl for a couple of days, and he was fine.

I haven't seen any on my place so far this year, knock on wood. Seems like we were seeing them almost every night last summer.

Mike, I think there is a chance your dog might be building up immunity from his several bites. A vet could tell you for sure.

I hope Mazie will be back to normal real soon Ken. ::tu:: Do you know where the snake is at? Was it close to your house? ::shrug:: I'd be worried that she would get bitten again by the same snake. ::shrug::

Thanks Tom. Mazie is back to normal, swelling is gone.

As for the snake, copperheads are plentiful here especially along the creeks and fence rows. We have seen them in the yard near the house but not recently. It’s not possible to eliminate them but I do kill them when I see one. I leave the non-poisonous snakes alone, unless they get into the chicken house. We have lived here since 1975 and until now no people, dogs, cats or other animals have been snake bitten, so I’m not too concerned about it. Just part of living out in the country. ::nod::

Thanks for sharing all your pets and again my condolences to those with recent tough losses.

I posted Elsa as a pup in Winter 2020 but here she is now just 3 months shy of 2 years old. In the desert about 1 mile from this house this last March.

She turned out to be an easy pup to raise and a great young dog. She is 4 flavors of Sheepdog to include Pyrenees, Akbash, Anatolian and Maremanno-Aburezze (Italian Sheepdog) according to the breeder but for 200 bucks for her, no reason to doubt it.

She oddly topped out ar 70 pounds (vet estimated 110 or 120 as a pup). Don't care as she is healthy. Very long and tall. Sweet but tough when needed.

Beautiful dog, Jerry. I can see the Abash in her. If she’s like my male she’s a sweetheart if she knows you but very stand-offish and protective if not.
