I carry a Recruit in the standard red ABS plastic daily. Gets pretty beat up in my pocket so while I appreciate the beauty of those knives they are too fine for my normal carry.

You occasionally find them with the Swiss cross on the back side, either through error or missing the boat on getting their logo. Nice find!

I really like the SAK's with the Alox handles. Only downside is no slide-in pick & tweezers.

I usually pair the larger Alox models with a 58mm on a neck lanyard.

Dan, Thanks for the interesting input. I was unaware of the possible error on that model.

You're welcome, Garry. The error is definitely a possibility, but I think it's much more likely it was intended to get a logo and for whatever reason did not. I have one with the reverse Swiss cross, and I'm 99.99% sure it missed out on receiving its intended logo.

Does anyone know the name for this large Alox pattern ? It has 2 'master' spear point blades and a small hawkbill blade.

And i have this 'older' ? red Alox Farmer. Looks like it had pocket time but never used. From the style of cross on handle can any dates be given ?

Here are 2 more Alox knives, a "Solo" and my favorite of all SAK's a 3 blade whose model name i don't know. I find a saw and an awl to be the most useful of all the tools. Although it is a 2 spring knife it is quite slender which i like.

Some incredibly nice SAKs you have there, Roland! I'm not sure if the green was a special run or was modified at some point in its life. Your very favorite SAK is a Bushcrafter, a special run for a distributor known as Swiss Bianco. And the Old Cross Farmer looks to be no newer than 1985.

Dan, thanks so much for these answers. I do like my Bushcrafter. Is a Farmer older than 1985 of any special value ? or the same as a recently made Farmer ?
