The drive was to go see Hermiston where Rose's family homesteaded when they came out on the Oregon trail. It was a 650 mile loop all in Oregon. We went through coastal rainforest, high mountain ponderosa, high desert, canyon lands, rolling grasslands and Columbia River gorge. We found agates in the Ochoco National Forrest and jasper at the legendary John Day river. I'd never seen the wind farms with their 650' tall wind turbines before. It was startling how suddenly things changed from one clime to another. Turn a corner and you go from desert to forest, at another time we climbed up out of a ravine to suddenly be in wide open grasslands.

Setting up this photo, "the Wild" got a little too close for my preference.

Cool shot. Mr NoShoulders was just making sure the placement was right, and that there were no pesky rodent interlopers trying to photo-bomb the shot.

I reck'on he was a Bull snake, he sure moved fast and I hope he is fast enough to nab some of them pesky pack-rats hiding out in my wood pile.

I'm not a big fan of snakes, either. But I am a fan of USA-made Old Timers. Those are some great photos of a superb knife! ::tu::

Took this picture of my dad's 8OT resting on the WMSR rail with the Cumberland Bone Cave entrance in the background. I think there's a website for more info on the Bone Cave, if you're interested.

Siuslaw river lastnight. Rose had been eating chicken and rinsed her fingers in the river. About 3-5 minutes later a dozen or so crawdads showed up. Amazing smelling ability!
