The latest addition to the collection. A Case Family Brands 2009 Standard Knife Co. 61005. Something about this pattern catches my eye. It has an "old" look. Like me!

Afternoon everyone! Thought I’d add an additional Case to my two regular carry Case stockmans. Most please with the Kickstart. Excellent fit and finish on her. Much better than the last two Case knives I’ve bought over the past two years. Stay safe everyone, and I hope everyone had a great day!

That’s a nice Kickstart! Great knife there & love the A7 backdrop in your pic! I have a green one (that I received about a month ago, so I guess it qualifies as a “new pick-up” as well, and really like it.phil0175 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 10:54 pm Afternoon everyone! Took some “breaking in” but it opens much more smoothly now after I worked on it when it first arrived. Laughing at myself right now because I just tried to speed open it with a quick flick on the stud and proceeded to cut my thumb.
One-handed opening is a breeze, but it’s not a “flick” opener! Kinda wish mine had a pocket clip, as I like to carry modern folders clipped inside the right corner of my right pocket. However, I prefer deep carry clips & the Case clips on these Kickstart knives just leave too much peeking up above the pocket, and IMO also detract somewhat from the nice bone. Maybe clip is better on a G-10 or micarta handled one.
Enjoy your Kickstart, as well as the others!

Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
Actually Phil, on reflection, I don’t think mine is really a “Kickstart” as I think that”s a sort of assisted opening version. Mine’s just a locking, mid-folding hunter with the thumb stud on the blade. If yours is the Kickstart, I’d love to hear your impressions on how you like the assist mechanism!! If it’s favorable, a model like yours with the clip may go on my wish list!!SaintAuggie wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 5:22 pmThat’s a nice Kickstart! Great knife there & love the A7 backdrop in your pic! SaintAuggie wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 5:35 pmThank you for the kind words! I’ve been carrying the Kickstart for a week or so. Honestly, I really can’t say anything negative about the knife. It’s a bit small, and for me not really as user friendly I thought it would be. I really don’t like trappers, and got this one over the trapper style Kickstart. By the way, your Case looks great too! Hope everyone has a good weekend. Stay safe everyone.SaintAuggie wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 5:22 pmThat’s a nice Kickstart! Great knife there & love the A7 backdrop in your pic! That’s a really nice whittler. What are you calling the bone? It looks like light colored Roger’s Bone. Harold

Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
Ok… I committed heresy with my newest Case pick-up. And I’m cool with that!
Snagged a used 2001 Russlock this week in Sky Blue that was in great shape. Liked the turquoise blue on white bone, but wanted to make it “mine”. I really like the Case “burnt indigo” finish I have on a half-whittler, so tonight I put my Russlock through a trial by fire with my torch lighter. Made light, careful passes trying to be careful to avoid concentrating heat in any one area too long, avoiding heat near the pins and allowing it to cool more slowly by wrapping it afterwards in a towel to insulate it.
I’ve done this before, so not my first rodeo torching bone and have never had one crack or blister when done carefully. I have to imagine that Case does their burnt finishes somewhat similarly, and I’m pleased with the result.
I know there will be purists who will recoil, but it’s my knife and I dig it.
Fight me if you will, but I’m still right.

Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
I picked up this Bowie that has been re-handled because it sure looked like and old Case Bowie blade to me. Here is a photo next to a newer Case Bowie. Anyone think that it might be an older Case Bowie? Any thoughts for the experts out there?

Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
Everybody posting some nice finds. I received these three in today. All were either new in the box or Like new never used still in the original box with all original inserts, wrapping .
First a 2020 TB61117 SS Swayback in what Case called Bose Cover Bone Sawcut with the black CASE Clover shield. It ticked all the right boxes for me, Green, Swayback, Clover Shield and Wharncliffe blade. Still new, in the box with all papers.
Next, a 2003 Case Brothers line 61265LC Chestnut bone Folding Hunter Lockblade. It has the arched CASE BROS. CUTLERY CO. tang stamp on the mark side of the blade with USA 61265LC SS in the pile side. The Clip Blade has the CASE BROTHERS etch, and a thumb stud. Jigged Chestnut bone with the large federal shield, and on the pile side has a stud mounted pocket clip on the front bolster. Came like new in original tin with outer sleeve, and all original papers and sued leather knife slip. Couldn't help myself, the bone spoke to me
Lastly, another one that I thought had some beautiful bone. A 1999 6215 SSM Small gunstock. Smooth Chestnut Appaloosa Bone handles, with the oval CASE XX shield. Like new, in the box with original paper wrap and card, no wear on the blades and never put to a stone. Another that the bone said take me home.

Thanks! It has a very “beachy” vibe to it now, that I like. As a user knife, I wasn’t worried about being “that guy who fingerpainted all over the Mona Lisa”. I really wanted the off-white, amber brown, dark brown, blue and green tones that were achieved.Sharpnshinyknives wrote: ↑Fri May 06, 2022 11:06 am I love the looks of that one now.
