Software for collectors

Post by TomH »

Do any of you use data base software to keep track of your collection, that is relatively simple and flexible? I now use excel spreadsheets, but would like to add pictures and more lenghty comments.

I bought DPC Knife Collector 2.0 about 6-7 years ago. I have looked for the company several times since but they seem to have disappeared.
It is a very uncomplicated fill in the blank type program with a place for narative and photos, as well as the usual factual info such as dates of purchase, cost, place of purchase, etc.
I have no idea as to the capacity but I have over 600 knives on the program so far. I have had not a single problem with it to date.

Tom & Ray, you might want to take a look at Knife Collector a pretty flexable program written by a knife collector you can download it at www.ewillieware.com it cost nothing to try but to register the program I think its $25

Hope this helps !

I've heard good things about the program that Yerout is speaking of. I just use excel to make a "master" list and every knife (not currently - I have a ways to go) has has a word document containing pictures and text information. I lost a bunch to a double hard drive crash (a Western Digital USB back up died about 6 weeks before my main hard drive crashed) and some knives I made are lost forever) ::tear:: ::tear:: . I am replacing everything.

I have not actually gotten pictures of all my knives into folders and documents yet but it is set up like a website within my hard drive. My goal is to have all of them set up into an internal website. ::tu:: ::tu:: PIA factor is high with this method however.
