Hi, I just picked up this nice sunbone from a gentleman. He knew nothing about it but, talked to a friend and said he heard of a prototype from the 40s between case and ka bar.
Would love to know if this an prototype, or someone replaced the blade with an ka bar stamped blade.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated!!

Frankenknife. Ka-bar master blade, someone has put it in a Case elephant toe (aka sunfish) frame.

Re: Case/Ka-Bar Prototype?!?
Ken has it right, cobbled knife. One easy "tell" is the steel pivot pin in the master blade which sticks out like a sore thumb. Also, they didn't really make "prototypes" back in the day, that term is a marketing ploy by modern companies. KA-BAR did make a few models for Case but they are all marked Case, there are no genuine original knives with both Case and KA-BAR marked blades.
