I've been coveting this knife for close to 10 years but due to where I'm situated I could never order one, but we used my special shipping loophole to get this copy to me! I'm a sucker for shiny! He even threw in a very nice gift of this Rough Rider watch/change pocket lockback! Papa Bones wrote: Tue Apr 19, 2022 9:12 pm Another one I fished out of the bay last week. Just now finished cleaning her up. It had rust, crud in the blade wells, and blades were stiff. Gave it the usual warm mineral oil bath, flush and cleaning the blade wells. 4 oooo wool on the blades and bolsters. I saw potential for a good EDC and here she is. 3-3/8 inch closed Jack Knife. Schrade Cut. Co. Walden N.Y. tang stamp on both blades putting it in the era from the 1920's to about 1945. Both blades have great half stops, yes they are worn, yes they have spots and some pits, but now has surprisingly good snap and just a smidge (yes smidge is a technical term) of wobble on the secondary pen. The bone handles are pocket worn, but no cracks. It has three pins, long bolster, steel liners and didn't come with a shield, so I believe this is a pattern L2153. I have sharpened the blades, oiled the joints and now have a great little EDC Schrade. Here are some photos, the last one from a 1926 Schrade catalog

It amazing that people sell things on the bay that they dont/won’t clean up… a knife to be proud of.
Or how bout the guys that don't mark their knives in any way, ::shrug:: you'd think they'd be proud to say who made it! 8)

So true Jamie. They could at least oil the joints and wipe it down to help prevent more damage. There is a big difference between those who admire and appreciate old cutlery, and those who just want to make money.

Schrade Walden 204, guessing late '60s.

Don't know if it's permanent or not. Should have been a 1950s version without the bail in Cocobolo. I've contacted the seller.

It's not worth the $25 they were asking for it on its individual listing, but the older 204 was (it was mint).

The screwdriver is lazy and its lock has been badly bent. Looks like someone tried to disable it.

If I'm stuck with it or the seller lets me keep it, it will be the first TL-29 I have cut down itno being a one-blade Jack with nice handles.

Schrade Walden 204S from the '60s or early '70s--looks exactly like a Craftsman 9560 and 9561 I have. Was supposed to be a 1950s 204 in cocobolo, which the seller will be sending me.
20220420_142237.jpg
Seller will be sending me the right 204. They let me keep this one, and I will be using it. I've PM'd one of our mechanics here about the possibility of making it into a one-blade Jack since the screwdriver (somewhat lazy snap)and its lock (mangled) have issues.

However, I think Schrade got woodgrain Delrin down. The "Old Timer" coloring gives it a much better look than the cheapie stuff Utica uses to this date on Kleins.

Nice!

When I do buy my first auto after the reversal on the auto ban goes into effect on July 1, I've specified that whatever I buy is US-made. The Microswitch in Wharncliffe is the front-runner. The aquamarine color is less tactical, so less likely to draw attention.

I see used Kershaw Launch 4s all the time for $50-60, but I like the blade shape on my SpeedSafe Chive much better. Not only does it have a tip lock safety, it is also legal in more places due to not being automatic.

Thanks ~Q~. I wasn't sure what I thought of the color at first but it's growing on me real fast. I'll be carrying it at work tomorrow and I suspect that I'll come home in love with the dang thing.

Thanks Cody. Autos became legal to carry here a year or so ago and because of that, I'm fairly new to carrying an auto. I have to say that although I enjoy many types of knives, opening a folder with the push of a button is a very enjoyable way to use a knife. It has become my favorite method of blade deployment.

I really like these Hogues but we have a 3 inch blade restriction for carry. I want one of the bigger Hougue autos too but knowing that I won't carry it is holding me back from getting one. These Micoswitches are of superior quality and I'd like to try a larger model someday.

The blades on all three of mine are perfectly centered and they all lock up tight as a drum. The safety switch is consistent on all of them too. Just the right amount of resistance on all three. They click into place and they stay there until you move them. I'm 100% worry free about these accidently opening in my pocket or closing during use. They are wonderful knives.
