Was it troublesome trying to find the proper thread size for the four machine screws?
Did you have to adjust the length of the screws after you determined the slab thickness?

I always look for True Temper and Craftsman when out seeking old axes to buy and clean up and maybe even USE someday

It was a little troublesome finding the right screws. I debated on steel vs brass. Decided on brass because brass is softer and would give before the steel threads on the frame if I cross threaded. Each screw had to be hand fitted for length. They only bite in a little over 1/16”. Thanks for the nod!

I like everything about that one! I always look for cool maker's marks and that is one of the coolest. ... and why not look cool when killing zombies that are trying to overrun the Earth?

I found this at the local Peddler's Mall this past weekend. I couldn't pass it up for three American dollars. It is a three and a half pound head. I believe I have a 34 inch Link handle for it. Kentucky pattern Keen Kutter.

Well, there is no thread for bill hooks... that I know of... But here is a nice True Temper I found a while back. I am not sure what the S.P. CO is exactly.
Possibly it is S.P.Co; The Southern Pacific (reporting mark SP) (or Espee from the railroad initials- SP) was an American Class I railroad network that existed from 1865 to 1996 and operated in the Western United States. The system was operated by various companies under the names Southern Pacific Railroad, Southern Pacific Company and Southern Pacific Transportation Company.

Nice score, Rich. No new Estwings for me (plenty of old ones though, hatchets and hammers), but I did buy a mostly-still-there Millers Falls lath hatchet at a swap meet last weekend for 10 bucks.

Well Parker, I wouldn't mind seeing a picture of the Millers Falls lath hatchet if you were inclined to post one. Sounds like a pretty good find. I ask around a lot at the local swap meet for axes and most of the time I hear "I already sold it" or "I have a couple at home, I'll bring them next weekend" and of course you never see the guy again. So, I was surprised to find the Estwings like I did in such short order.

I’d love to post a pic, but with my weak signal out here in the boondocks, it’d take over an hour to upload, if it even came through. Sometimes I can’t get a text to send, much less a phone call. I get in the habit of copying all my post content to the clipboard on my phone, in case it times out and erases it.

However, I can describe the hatchet and hopefully give you a mental picture. It’s a kinda modified Underhill pattern, with a square-ish milled face and a curved step from the eye down to the parallel thickness blade, which is slightly over 1/8” thick. It has four 1/4” bevels reaching from near the eye to the face corners. 3-5/8” long x2” tall blade is stamped “MILLERS over FALLS” in 3/16” letters, over “MADE IN USA.” in letters about half that tall. Stamping is parallel to the edge at about 2” back, sharp and clear. Edge shows signs of being sharpened on a belt sander with 2-3 varying facets per side.

12-3/4” hickory haft, similar to Plumb and Vaughan models, is perhaps a little thinner in the neck. Hung tight with one wood wedge and two small steel cross wedges, trimmed flush with the eye. Square cut butt with 1/8” chamfer. “1317” stamped on butt in 3/16” numbers, also “TARR” handwritten on butt in black Sharpie (possibly previous owner’s name). Total weight is 1 lb, 6 oz on the antique postal scale.
