Commemorative Knife

Can a knife blade be engraved (hardened blade) or is etching a better process? I would like to have a blade marked in memory of Johhnie Fain, and donate it for the support of his favorite site; here at AAPK naturally!
Give me some advice, and I'll get the ball rolling!

I believe that after hardening that etching would be much easier than engraving. Hardened steel will be hard to engrave. I will contact an engraver who is a member of this site to firm this that up. I am 99.9% sure. That's a great gesture Charlie - we have suffered a great personal loss.

I had my Buck 110 engraved on the blade. Is your blade any more hardened than the Buck?
