Late Night Lodge
Re: Late Night Lodge
Well, the weekend is gone. Spent it with daughter & family in MN. Granddaughters were in a school play Friday night. Saturday some shopping with my daughter and lots of good food. Sunday church and trip back home. Having a short bourbon toddy and then to bed.
Protected by a large LOUD dog, and Smith & Wesson...

It's 38F and clear here on the front range of the Rockies. Looks like a stretch of decent weather ahead, time to take the covers off the grill and smoker.

Seeing that you’re in Kentucky - my uncle in East Tennessee had “mountain feists” is this a breed you’re familiar with?Colonel26 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 3:21 am Evening one and all. Schrade I agree about the hounds. If I didn’t have to be up early tomorrow I might would take the curs out and tree a couple of coons.
Thanks in advance and I’ll be up most of the night so any good tv or books (just finished “Quarry’s Blood” by Max Allan Collins) recommendations are appreciated.
Good sleep and nice dreams gents.
Re: Late Night Lodge
Went to the pond three different times today to walk around it. It was quite pleasant.
Several turtles on the stones.
I got a new battery in my remote key for my car at a stunning cost of $5. Stunning because I thought it would cost a great deal more. My local mechanic shop did it for me. Not a dealership.
Last week and weeks before it hardly got to the 50s. Today and these next few days will be in the 60s and Thursday promises to be in the low 70s finally already.
All the best, Night Lodgers.

Re: Late Night Lodge
Currently 63* with rain expected early am. High Tuesday of around 80*. Not much happened today but I did manage to get a long overdue haircut. I'm going to try to get the oil changed in my mower and check the blades tomorrow after the rain moves out. The yard is starting to get a little ragged around the edges. I hope everyone has a good night and a blessed Tuesday. Rick.
Re: Late Night Lodge
We have various strains of both feists and curs here. Curs vs Feists can get into some heated debates! Curs are generally bigger, have flop ears, and SOME range out farther, although mine hunt close.schradefan27 wrote: ↑Tue Apr 12, 2022 2:02 amSeeing that you’re in Kentucky - my uncle in East Tennessee had “mountain feists” is this a breed you’re familiar with?Colonel26 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 10, 2022 3:21 am Evening one and all. It was said that back in the day if you had a litter of pups, the ones that were smaller and had pricked up ears got sold as feists, and the bigger ones with folded over ears got sold as curs. There’s not hardly a strain of curs or feists out there that doesn’t have some of the other in it’s background somewhere. In our forefathers’ day doing the job was more important than a set of papers. So both strains emerged more as a landrace than a breed, if that makes sense.
Here is Black Betty my Mt. Cur, and Pepper my Blackmouth Cur. We have both strains right now. The Blackmouth curs are bigger and stockier. Both will know a tree down to get a squirrel, but are big ol softy lap dogs in the yard.

Re: Late Night Lodge
Thank you so much for posting pictures of your dogs - very good looking
The feist dogs I’m familiar with are usually under 25 lbs, and the curs are typically yellow lab color with black mouths - used for hog hunts and range about 40 to 60 lbs
It’s nice that some working dogs still get to work their innate drives.
Have a nice and restful night everyone.

It's nice to see the pictures of the dogs that Colonel 26 posted. That certainly brings back a lot of memories to me of coon hunts of long ago. My dad's favorite hounds were Bluetick and Black & Tan with an occasional Walker or Red Bone in the mix. Some of them doubled as squirrel dogs in the daytime. Currently it is 67* here and not expected to get much lower as showers have moved into the area. Some possibly fairly severe storms are forecast for Wednesday evening. Hopefully they won't disrupt the Wednesday night Bible study at the church. I hope everyone has a good evening and stay safe. Rick.

Big storms and a tornado watch here in south central Kentucky. This pic is out of my bedroom window over top of the barn.

We are having strong wind and rain here in more or less the center of central KY. So far Colonel 26 is closer to possible tornados.
Re: Late Night Lodge
We had some pretty high winds, heavy rain, and lightning for about 2 hours earlier this evening. There are reports that around 1000 people are without power on the other side of the river in Lauderdale County. It is quiet now and the rain has stopped. I'm sure there will be some small limbs and branches to pick up come daylight. I did manage to get the oil changed in the mower today and got the yard mowed for the first time this year. Not much going on around here now. I hope everyone has a good night and be safe. Rick.

Looks like everyone has gone to bed.
Been a long boring day. Guess I''ll head to the bunk before long also.

I am up David. Went to bed at 730 and woke up 12 midnight to read a little on my favorite site AAPK. Nice cool evening in Southeast Missouri. Going back to the rack (as we said in the Navy) in a few minutes though. Have a good Friday all!!
Re: Late Night Lodge
Good evening everyone. We made it to the weekend, and I’m on vacation. I need to get some work done on my old truck and the house. Hopefully I get motivated.

Well, it's gotten warmer here in my neck of the woods. It makes walking around the pond all the more pleasant.
I have been staying on my "one meal a day" low carbohydrate eating schedule. It is paying off and I am loosing weight.
Again.
Tomorrow I will head down to Woodbury, Ct. to the usual flea market that I have been going to for many years now.
I always enjoy going there. On Sunday I will go to the New Milford, Ct. flea market also. This one is much larger and they call it "The Elephant Trunk". I don't know why. This one is iffy this time around because of weather issues.
I don't go to church but I will be spending time in communion with our Loving and Forgiving Lord.
I hope everyone has a great weekend.

Re: Late Night Lodge
Sitting here watching the Cubs v Rockies. Cubs were leading 3-0 up until 4th inning. Rockies scored 5 in the 4th. Ouch!
Giving some serious consideration to hitting the rack. Final score will be the same no matter if I stay up or I don't.

One of my wife's (not wives, I only have one) favorite shows is "Flea Market Flip", they frequently film episodes at "The Elephant Trunk". It looks like a great place to spend some time. Do you ever run across any decent old folders there?

Not like procrastinating til the last minute to do your taxes.
Finally done and am actually getting some back this year.
Which simply means I overpaid during the year, giving the gubmint an interest free loan of my money for them to frivolously waste on BS.

Re: Late Night Lodge
Good morning folks. I could just about open the diner at this hour but I'll let Cudgee come along and take care of that a little later. We are in the midst of a thunderstorm at this moment but it doesn't seem to be too bad. More is expected throughout the early morning hours and again on Sunday. Hopefully it won't get in the way of the sunrise service down at the church. I hope everyone has a good rest of the night and a great weekend. Don't forget the reason we celebrate Easter and attend a service if you're able to. Be safe. Rick
Re: Late Night Lodge
