And here is another 'oldie': 3 3/8" Horsemans knife marked "Repeat/Needham/Brothers/Celebrated". This one is in reasonably good condition with pick & tweezers still present and no pieces missing from the ivory handles.
This marking with "Celebrated" and no "Sheffield" is not in Goins or LG4. Could be one of Needham's older markings circa 1860 ? or not ?

And here is a beat up old 3 1/2" 'multi-blade' marked "Brookes & Crookes/Sheffield/England".
It has scissors with a tab projecting up to help open. The corkscrew is snapped off and one of the 3 insert tools is missing. One of the 2 remaining tools is a fleam incased in tortoise shell. Not in the best of condition but still an attractive old knife.

The Champagne pattern is a very interesting knife. I have no speculation as to the use of the hollow blade?? I also really like the horseman knife. It has very attractive aged ivory. Tweedale does not shed any light on the tang stamp.

Roland, Those are 3 very interesting knives. I think the hollow tube blade on THE MELTON is an early version of a leather punch.
This knife was possibly a promotional give away from long ago?

It seems too fancy a knife to have been a hand out to customers ? A special factory order for founding members ? As The Melton society still exists i will try to email them and ask about this knife.

An observation i have made is that old ivory handled knives and especially the multi-blades are almost always heavily used and often abused.
An unused or lightly used example seems more rare with ivory handles than old knives with other material for handles (stag, bone, hard wood).
Have others here also observed this ?
I cannot think of any reason why ivory handled knives would have been more heavily used than knives with other handles. Any thoughts about this ?

Here is another unique knife which is a fixed blade type with a folding blade and corkscrew in the back side of the handle. This sheathed model was produced around 1900 by Thomas Turner, and the fixed blade is replaceable as the accompanying advertisement from 1907 shows. A very well made knife with checkered horn handles.

This one is stamped WEISS & SON / 62 STRAND. It's 6 1/8" closed and 11" open. Has fancy threaded integral bolsters / liners.

Mason, This knife is an amazing example, Etched blade, stamped bolster, Beautiful ivory & uncommon Gunstock handle. Not to mention the incredible condition.
The only negative is.....that it's not part of my collection. Thanks for showing.
