Thanks for the great info, any idea when these were made?zp4ja wrote:Ken,ken98k wrote:Got this new aquisition today. I'm not sure if it's made from Case parts or it's and outright forgery.
Nice little knife regardless of who made it.
The knife is fine. It was a contract knife made for CASE. It is a 620035. It was a cheaper alternative to the CASE 35 pattern as you can tell based on the handle material, no shield and thinner stock used for the backsprings and blades. I have a 620035-1/2LP posted in the link below. Notice the similarity of the "imitation jigged bone" handles?

you are quite welcome, glad to help. Steve's book says (page 146 if you have it), maybe Imperial Schrade during the early 60s', just paraphrased. The handles do shrink a bit and that is normal.ken98k wrote:Thanks for the great info, any idea when these were made?zp4ja wrote:Ken,ken98k wrote:Got this new aquisition today. This is a hit and miss issue that CASE is ignoring and hoping it goes away!! That seems to be their way as of late.. Some have acceptable(??) snap and others are WEAK!! I got the Shot Shot TB signature ebony and the snap is sad!! Guess after handling/buying a few GEC knives I expect too much!!ken98k wrote:Not sure who I would return it to? Case? It does have a weak snap but you're right about comparing it to a GEC snap, there's no contest.jmh58 wrote:This is a hit and miss issue that CASE is ignoring and hoping it goes away!! Re: WHAT ARE YOU CARRYIN RIGHT NOW? WHAT IS YOUR FAV EDC?
Edit: I cannot speak to Case's QC procedures but it is not uncommon for manufacturers to QC samples or to do batch sampling. In other words, they take every other tenth, twentieth, fiftieth (whatever) knife and QC it. Or they may take a sample of five or ten knives every so often and QC them (batch sampling). If the sample or the batch pass QC, they assume all the other knives will also pass QC. 100% QC (inspecting every single piece that comes off the end of the line) is EXPENSIVE and seldom practiced any more. It cuts into their profit and of course in present day industry, that is not acceptable. It's all about the money and product quality is secondary.ken98k wrote:Not sure who I would return it to? Case? If it already passed their QC, I doubt they would they mess with it now that I've used it.
Of course Case. They manufactured the knife and warrantied it to be free of "defects in materials and workmanship". There are some assumed performance standards for any product. For knives, it is widely assumed that the knife will not fall apart or fail doing the task for which it was designed (reasonable cutting chores) and to accomplish that task, the blades will open and close to an unwritten but widely accepted industry standard. In this case, that thing commonly referred to as "snap". Having used the item is totally irrelevant.

Linnea used to chastise me for speaking my mind in a restaurant. I've lost count of the times I've told her, "It's my money. I have a right to expect a quality product for my money and damn it, they asked. If they don't want to know what I think of the food, don't ask."royal0014 wrote:Preach it Brother!!jerryd6818 wrote:After all, you are part of the customer base that keeps them in business and it's your God given, American, economic right to get a product for your hard earned money that satisfies you.
