HANDLES:   Saw cut Delrin® handles

BLADES:   Clip, sheepfoot & spey blades of 1095 carbon steel.

DAMAGE: May have light shop wear. Minor rust spotting towards the tip of the clip blade and on the spine of the spey blade tang. It appears that it was kept next a celluloid knife at one point. Small spot on back springs.

BLADE WEAR:  Appears to still have factory edge though possibly lightly used

SNAP:   Very good

There are a couple of unique things about this 8OT, if you look at the picture of the pile side of the clip blade you will see that it has some ink markings on it as might a salesman sample knife. Inked on the back of the clip blade is “8OT.”  There appeared to have been other numbers there on the blade but most are smudged out by this time. The other thing that stands out to me about this knife is the fact that the Delrin is a deeper color than a lot of the more modern Delrin.

I purchased this knife from a vendor who said she had bought a bunch of Schrade’s from a former Schrade salesman. Most of them were in near mint to mint condition, I think this one spent a little too much time near to a celluloid knife that was off gassing, thus the source of the rust spots.

Introduced in 1960 the 8OT is the longest produced pattern in the Old Timer line. It was produced from 1960 until Schrade closed in 2004. Although these were made by the millions they are getting harder to find, especially in decent condition. People bought these and used them, they were made as tools to use, not as a collectable knife. But now 10 years after the closing of Schrade it is getting harder and harder to find a good Schrade 8OT. Put an 8OT in your pocket and carry it for a few days and you will understand why it was one of Schrades most popular knives for almost 45 years!
