ADDITIONAL INFO:     The Schrade Blazer (89OT) was in the Schrade catalogs from 1989 to 1999. I do not know exactly when the MM89 but it was probably in the same timeframe. The MM89 stands for Master Mechanic and the Schrade model number 89. Master Mechanic was, and still is, the house brand of tools made for True Value Hardware Company. Schrade made several their popular patterns for True Value under the Master Mechanic brand name that were sold in True Value Hardware stores. I purchased this this knife at the True Value Hardware Store in Kaiser Oregon on January 19, 2006, just slightly over 14 years ago. The reason I know exactly when I purchased it is I put the receipt in the box with the knife. The knife comes with the box which has seen a bit of abuse but has nicely protected the knife inside.

The 89OT, Blazer, seems to be a difficult pattern to find. It is built on the same frame as the 8OT one of Schrade’s most popular large stockman knives. The 8OT was made for approximately 44 years and the 89OT was only made for about 10 years. It is a popular variation of the classic 8OT and is highly sought after by collectors. This Master Mechanic MM89 is even harder to find because it was an SFO. I rarely rate a knife as Mint condition because even knives that have never been out-of-the-box from the factory are often not in Mint condition and might have small dings from the machinery they were manufactured on. This knife is as close to true Mint condition as any new in box knife I have seen. It would make a great display knife and is a critical piece to have for anyone collecting SFO Old Timers.
