ADDITIONAL INFO:     Schrade named the 835Y the “Dude.” It was listed in their catalogs from 1957 to 1981. The handles are listed as “Maize (yellow) plastic handles” with a nickel silver oval shield and birdseye type – no bolsters. This knife was made prior to June 1973 when the tang stamps were changed from the (Schrade Walden) stamp, as on this knife, to the “Schrade” tang stamp. I’m not certain what type of plastic was used for this handle, but I don’t believe it was celluloid and I also don’t think its Delrin. There are a number of Delrin handle knives on eBay and the color seems to be a little lighter than these handles. The birdseye bolsters are not very common anymore, simply because there is a tendency for the handles to crack at the birdseye bolsters. The birdseye bolster is really a pin through an oversized washer which supports the pen and keeps the pin from wallowing out the handle around the pin. This is a good knife for someone who is a beginning collector and is looking for examples of various styles and tang stamps of Schrade and Schrade Walden. Priced to sell.
