ADDITIONAL INFO:    I received knife and it had a broken spring in it and no sheath. It just happened that I had found the correct sheath for this knife, or more precisely for a 51OT which is the Old Timer version of this knife. I repaired the knife by installing a factory spring, and cleaning the knife. The knife has been used and does have a few dings in it; obviously it was not a safe Queen. It is a unique part of American history and cutlery history!

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND: This knife is part of a series of five individually scrimshawed knives honoring some of America’s greatest presidents; Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt & Andrew Jackson. They were made in 1984 by cooperation between American Express, Schrade Cutlery and the American Historical Foundation. There were 6000 sets produced and they were sold through American Express. The purchase included a certificate from Henry Baer. The first knife was George Washington and subsequent knives were released in four month intervals. Because of the large number of knives to be scrimshawed they were scrimshawed by a number of scrimshaw artists and not Frank Giorgianni who was the Schrade scrimshaw artist at that time. However, Frank Giorgianni touched up any of the knives that came in with light scrimshawing or that were poor quality.
