Another trousse knife ? Persian ? Scandanavian ? Help :)

Post by twdroppoint »

Okay, this knife isn't mine ... so I haven't seen it in person. I can only go by these pics, but no one has been able to identify it's origin. When I first saw it, I thought, "It's a trousse knife !", but I'm not sure. I had a knife here a few weeks back I was stumped on, and the forum helped identify it (the thread on the Tibetan utility/trousse knife). We further nailed that particular knife down by it's pattern, rayskin, and other factors. This knife .... I haven't seen any like it online. One person thinks it may be an old Scandanavian fillet knife ... but it doesn't look like a good blade for that purpose in my eyes. I thought perhaps it was Middle Eastern. Any thoughts ?

I saw this posted in another thread. Someone guessed Africa, another the Middle East. After checking several Google searches, my guess is Turkey or one of the **stan countries. Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, etc, etc. Or at least that area and maybe Northern India.

Where was the thread ? When I said "we" I was talking about an antique forum ... was the thread here on this site (can you link to it IOW)? If so, then perhaps the owner posted here on his own, and sorry for the double thread :)

Hmm ... one of the Stan's. But nothing about it looks Scandanavian at all ?

Jerry is right it was on this site. I guessed middle east, from a cottage industry because it has that look to it.

The owner must have posted here on his own then ... I was thinking Middle East at first as well, but then I was all over the map. The *Stan idea is interesting. I wish it could be nailed down definitively though ... it's bothering me lol.

Thanks to the both of you regardless :)
