Re: Newly Aquired Bull Dog
Unfortunately this is a seller who is on my "black list"! I once bought two knives from him and they were in a very bad shape with blades that were messed up on a grinder and broken handles. On my complaint he just replied they were "old collectors knives" and the condition was accordingly.
Of course I sent the knives back to him and eventually got my money back.
Too bad but I wouldn´t recommend buying from him.
But thank you anyway!
Cheers

Great looking knife.
I would say they are rare in Germany because they where made for import to the US by Parker.
Are Fight'en Rooster a rare knife there also?
Hear is one I just picked up awhile back.

Yes, Fight n´Roosters, Bulldogs, Hen & Rooster - you name it. Solingen is just around the corner (about 400 kilometers) and all the good stuff goes to the US.
After all american pocket knife patterns are not very popular here in Germany. No idea why this is so....
It feels quite strange to me but I have to buy my german knives from the US.
Cheers

Re: Newly Aquired Bull Dog
Everyone seems to get nuts about those french Laguiole knives. The rest buys flashy chinese stuff if you look at the Ebay auctions in Germany.
As I said, collecting pocket knives isn´t very popular over here. I suppose the main difference is that we don´t have that many different patterns.
Sowbellies, Muskrats or Stockmen are not used here. The standard pattern seems to be the simple Farmer Jack but people don´t have those
massive collections like the collectors in the US. If I would tell my friends that I have a soft spot for those simple Electrician Knives...

You could probably appreciate this old "1970s" Fight'en Rooster than. It has always been one of my favorite knives out of my collection. The sunset handles was,in my opinion, one of the best looking compost handles out there. I love their End Of Day knives also and have grabbed up a few mint one's over the years

@knifetime: I love End of Day-knives too but have only one so far. I am a bit nervous about outgassing though...
@tendots: There´s defintitely nothing wrong with Laguiole knives. It´s just that I find the countless different US patterns more interesting to collect. Well, grass is always greener on the other side, isn´t it?

Randy -- I hope you don't mind if I add a few Bulldog Doctors to your thread.
The first is a factory double stamp. I'm banking on the handles being acrylic and not Celluloid. I would sure hate to have to get rid of these guys.

I really like those doctor's patterns, Jerry. I think those handles will be fine. The end of day handles will shrink some but I have never had them gas. Nice knives and thanks for posting them.

Tom -- I bought those during the first few years of this growing addiction. Sometimes I think I was better off back when I didn't know enough to be dangerous.

Tom has said the EOD handles aren't bad about that. The one's I have hashas had no problem. I have saw they shrink a bit but very little.Capt. Farrel wrote:@knifetime: I love End of Day-knives too but have only one so far. I am a bit nervous about outgassing though...![]()

tendots -- I agree with you that there is "nothing wrong with Laguiole knives." In fact, I have two and would have more if I could afford them.

The one and only EOD handled knife I have is still fine too. Your comments are quite assuring that outgassing doesn´t seem to be so bad on these.

Re: Newly Aquired Bull Dog
Capt- what EOD knife do you have, got any pics. Hear is a few I have. I put in some miniature Roosters also for you to checkout. The tobacco knives are very hard to find and are 1 of 100. I can't find any information on the pen knife but it is some real nice pearl and etch,if you got any info on it I would sure like to hear it.The gaff knife pic's are marked FR the one is silver the other I'm not sure but both are done in pearl.

Here is my first bulldog. Picked it up at a yard sale on the way to Court Days in Mt. Sterling Ky. this summer. The etch is Our Best with S&D in middle. Sorry for bad pics sun is gone down. The guy I bought it from had it in a plastic bag with what looked like a quarter pound of axle grease on it. Happy New Year and God Bless. Charlie

These are the only three other Bulldogs I have. They did make some awfully fine knives.

Re: Newly Aquired Bull Dog
Beautiful Bulldogs and FRs guys! I too have always been a fan of both and at one time had several BDs and FRs. Now I have only this Bulldog Sowbelly in Coonstripe and these three FRs End Of Day handles and Tom is right, I have never known the end of days to outgass but they might shrink a bit as Tom stated.
