Wenger is Out

Post by Quick Steel »

Wenger brand will no longer produce SAKs. I don't have information about other items they might produce. Victorinox which of course owns Wenger decided that going with their one brand would over all be best.

Victorinox was badly hurt by knife airline restrictions after 911. SAKs are by far the most confiscated knives at airports. They were also hurt by the reduction in the size of the Swiss Army.

The Swiss government helped somewhat by limiting Army suppliers to only Swiss manufacturers.

I wonder if there will be a collector value develop for Wengers.

I´ve read this in the german knife magazine "Messer Magazin". There is said, that no employees will loose their jobs. Which is pretty cool. Some Wenger pattern will not be longer produced, but some will made under the Victorinox label.

Wenger will still be in production until January 2014. So there should be enough time to get whatever is wanted of this cutlery.

There's just something about a Wenger. To me, they feel more substantial than a Victorinox. ::shrug:: Probably all in my head.
