Sak's as edc?

Do many here actually carry a ask as their edc?

As much as I love my Opinel, and my K55 Mercator, I just can't wean myself from a sak in the pocket. Just so darn handy to have around, and I can't count the times I've actually fixed something with a ask. A trolling motor out on a big lake, minor but important problem on a motorcycle in the middle of nowhere, home repair that needed a screw driver. A heck of a lot of use in a small pocket size package.

I carry more than one knife at a time. One of them is a SAK or leatherman always.

One of my best buddies carries a SAK. I've given him a couple other knives and maybe he just sticks them in the bureau drawer because that SAK is always in his pocket.

Don't carry it every day, but one of my EDC knives is a SAK, and I make sure to have it on me
if I 'go off the pavement'.

I could be wrong, but I believe most SAKs have been replaced by multi-tools. My Leatherman has replaced my need to carry a SAK. Of course, SAKs have more verve and panache than a multi-tool.

I've never been bit by the multitool bug. I guess I have little need for a pliers in my daily life. To me a ask is a pocket knife with few tools, wheres a multitool is a folding pliers with a knife blade attached.

Most definitely. The Wenger Pocket pal is now one of my regular edcs. It is thinner than any other knife I own. It has only the spring and alox scale... no liner. The main blade is a spear and the little blade is a clip. I find it a very useful combination for light every day tasks. A real bargain IMO. s-k

I carry a SAK Cadet on my work truck key chain every day, I also carry another knife in my front pocket presently a GEC.

I'm naked without my Vic SAK Classic. I actually mailed it ahead of me last time I flew!!

I rotate my other EDC's, but never that one. She's one of the four I carry.

My classic is on all my key chains ::nod::She was my Father in laws till he passed.

The little classic is one of my favorites. I keep it on a quick release hook on my keys, so I can detach it for easier use. I've actually fixed things with the small screw driver on the end of the nail file. It fits most small phillips screws that hold everything together. With th classic on my keys and a tinker or recruit in my pocket, I don't think there's much I can't deal with. As much as I love my Opinels, they are just a knife, and don't give me the options a SAK gives me. Not to mention the red handle SAK is so people friendly that it goes under the radar except for flying. Then it goes in my checked luggage. I won't go anywhere without my SAK.

i have always a little sak in my pocket (a victorinox minichamp) - very usefull for little things

Stan (or anyone for that matter), can you tell me what these two tools are used for? Is that spoon looking tool for digging for ear wax?

the first one (the hook) is a orange peeler with scraper
the second one a cuticle pusher

Thanks Stan. I was beginning to think the second one was for drug use of some kind but I knew that couldn't be right. I don't think I've ever pushed my cuticles. Why do you think people do that and do enough of them do it to warrant a special tool on a knife?

yes a little spoon for drug.
it's a little knife which can find place in a women handbag - i think it's for this reason mr Victorinox put this tool on - i use it as a little lever for remove batteries from watches, it's a good tool . but every one can find a newer use

It's hard to beat the little 58mm sak's for a pocket friendly edc tool. I wonder how many of the 58's they make each year compared to the other bigger models? I see them almost everywhere on keychains.

no, it's very useful for every day little tasks (i'm working in IT) - when i need a bigger blade, i have a real knife

There's always a SAK Spartan in my pocket unless I'm on a plane. It gets daily use and family and work colleagues have come to rely on it being there when needed. When we're setting up or taking down Trade Show stands it gets spotted and borrowed but adjacent stands when they need it. There's also a Classic on my key ring.

I carried a SAK from the time I was a 2LT (1975) until 1986 when I gave it to an Italian Army Warrant Officer during a NATO exercise (Display Determination - 86). At the time I was the company commander of the 696th Maintenance Company, in support of the 30th Infantry Brigade; the Italian warrant let me take his German built Leopard tank for a spin on the proving range in northern Italy - what a tank! I bought a replacement SAK at the Fort Bragg PX when we returned home that September (they cost twice as much in Switzerland!!), an original Huntsman which I still own today - it lives in my desk drawer now. In the early 1990's my battalion commander gave each of the BN staff officers (I was the S-2/3, Operations & Intel) at the 167th MP BN a Victorinox "Pick-nicker", which was a bigger SAK with a locking main blade - I carried it for a few years until I replaced it with a Leatherman tool and a medium Kabar stockman - but I have kept it in my car ever since retiring it from EDC use. All were good, dependable, useful knives - they only lacked charisma.
