Poldi of.....Sheffield????

Hi guys, this is one we have owned for a while that I'd like to share with you, I had assumed it was mainland European but it turns out it was made in Sheffield, England! Made by or for Poldi steel works, Napier Street, Sheffield, the company was closed by the British government of the day on 14th July, 1916, under the "Trading with the enemy amendment act 1916"

That is a fine looking little knife. The pearl is awesome. Can't help you with info on Poldi, but I too would like to learn more about them. I wonder what enemy they were trading with.

I've been doing some more digging on this one, and have since discovered there was also a POLDI steel company in Austria in 1914!

So possibly not Sheffield after all, but German? A German connection would also explain the Sheffield factory being closed in 1916, When Britain was at war with Germany.

Either way it's still a nice knife!

I agree... that is a nice little knife regardless of the origin. Thanks for the updated information. I think the original instict of German rather than Sheffield makes sense IMO. s-k
