Looks great and couldn't agree more about the edge those Camillus knives take!

Hey s-k,
I really like the size of the S & M whittler, and the redbone scales are really nice ::tu:: . I have not put the knife to work as a whittler, yet  I think I'm gonna' just admire her for awhile :) . They now make the same style whittler but with a Wharncliff as the master blade. It has a real nice looking brown bone handle, I expcect I will succumb to that one in the future  . I would say go for it, treat yourself to one!

By the way, that pearly whittler is Beautiful!

Here's my latest whittler purchase. Carved Pearl Cattaraugus Cut Co. This is the first Cattaraugus that I have ever seen marked this way. Great little 3" whittler. No chips or cracks in the pearl and the knife is nice and tight. The liners are coined with no brass on the knife at all.

Fran I will bring it with me on Sat so you can get a better look at it.

That Cattaraugus whittler is extremely interesting to me for at least two reasons, first, the carved pearl and second the way the word company is abbreviated, Co with the "o" underlined. Both of these features are characteristic of German made knives.

That got me to wondering, did Cattaraugus ever import knives from Germany? So, I went to my trusty Goins and this is what I found. There was a Cattaraugus Cutlery Company in Prussia from 1886-1890. I wonder if this knife might have been made by them?

By the way, the logo on the purse (with the little hatchet men) is shown in Goins on a Cattaraugus box, so the purse I believe is from Cattaraugus, Little Valley. Goins doesn't say if the two companies were related.

Hey All,
Well as of today i now have two collectable whittlers. Just got this one in the mail today. It is a Coles german made large whittler with the best looking pearl handles on it i have ever seen. All three blades are tang stamped with Coles and under that is germany. These pics dont do it justice.

You are so right about Goins' having one for Prussa. Remember that JBF Champlin the founder of Cattaraugus was salesman for Friedmann & Lauterjung who imported from Germany. I am sure he had knives made in Germany before he started making them. Check out Goins page 173 and see Maine Cutlery Co. This was a brand that Champlin imported from Germany. He also had razors made in Germany some were marked Galvanic.

Charlie, yes the handles are horn. It is the only one I have ever seen with that Maine mark. I like to harness jack you just bought, please post it after you check it out.

Thanx guys. Ii gotta get a tripod. I think these parts were made by Queen and put together by Chris, who also made the boxes. If I am not mistaken.
