The Cattaraugus Cutlery Company was started by John Champlin and his son Tint in 1882. It was first incorporated under the name J.B.F. Champlin and Son as a wholesale distribution company based in Little Valley, New York. The business proved to be a successful endeavor, and it soon branched into a knife production company named Cattaraugus.

Mike I have seen a couple with that CCC stamp but sadly I don't have any myself. Thanks for showing them!
Dimitri, that is probably the best Catt wrench knife I've seen. Can't believe you've been holding out on us though!

Here is a little Catt. of mine, I have a couple and will post them periodically. McCallum is a family name as well so it has that appeal for me.

This is an old Catt. that came in a group of knives, from a guy whose mother did volunteer work at a church thrift shop. All of the knives were left in the pockets of clothing donated to the church over a long period of time. I was lucky to be the first fella to cross paths with him at a Duck Decoy show back about 15 years ago. There was 15 to 20 knives in a plastic basket, I bought them all. This Catt was one of them. Octagon shaped bolsters with the thinnest Indian Trail bone slabs. Each side is the thickness of a dime. It's hard to imagine how this knife was pinned together without cracking the bone. This is one of my favorite knives. Barry

So Charlie, what did you get out of that? Is Ovalhole packing simply a mathematical concept? I never did see areference to a company with that name.

I just picked up a newer version with the rubber comp handle, same advert. Ovalhole Packing made valve and pump packing to seal valve stems, etc.
