There’s something about the older sawcut bones on Barlows like yours , really wear well and believe they look better as time goes by with decent use .
Appreciate your sharing your pics

Thanks JP, David and Smitty. I agree about the sawcut bone and Southington stamp. There is more yellow paint on the other side of the NYK Co. knife but I haven't messed with it.

Anyone know the meaning of " 90 Days" on this Imperial Mark Twain Barlow. Not my knife but a couple on Ebay right now.

I would assume it is a safety awards knife, given if you made it 90 days without an accident.CluelessNick wrote: ↑Thu Apr 08, 2021 7:25 pm Anyone know the meaning of " 90 Days" on this Imperial Mark Twain Barlow. Not my knife but a couple on Ebay right now.

Thanks John. You have quite the collection of barlows (and of everything else, it seems.)

It’s to commerate Mark Twain’s 90 days in the Mother lode Country , not a safety award .
Check out California Landmark Foundation Mark Twain 90 days in gold country !
That might clear it up

JP, thanks for clearing that up, I've seen the Mark Twain Barlows but don't recall seeing one with the 90 days.

Thanks John. They’re unfortunately among the group that was damaged by storage in a knife roll. If you look closely in the picture you can see the spotting/pitting on the bolsters. (BTW there were no celluloid knives in the roll.)JohnR wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 4:19 pmNice group of Case red bones Ken, some of the best Barlows ever made.Mumbleypeg wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 3:34 pm Some Case barlows from the pile. That is unfortunate, was the knife roll in a damp area?

Thanks JP, don't know how you found that but I just knew it had to have something to do with Mark Twain. Just could not figure out what. Re: The Venerable Old Barlow
Nope, in fact it was in a safe with desiccant. Nothing else was harmed except the knives in the roll. Knives that were stored in Sackups in the same safe were fine. My only plausible explanation is there was some type of chemical residue in the material the roll was made of (felt or flannel, elastic, Naugahyde, etc) that was the culprit.JohnR wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 4:37 pmMumbleypeg wrote: ↑Fri Apr 09, 2021 4:34 pmThanks John. Re: The Venerable Old Barlow
Found this old JUDSON CUTLERY CO. NY/Germany, Barlow in an eight knife deal today. It's small, 2-15/16", very narrow, iron liners and bolsters. The bolster is 1-1/4" long! Glassy smooth bones and a wire bale. Just a cool little Barlow. J.O'.

Re: The Venerable Old Barlow
Thanks fellas. I'm really happy with the little Barlow. The little wire bale and it's small, thin profile. I'd call it a "Boy's Barlow'. It's a cutie. J.O'.

Once again, you blow all the competition away John. Nice stash, had no idea there were that many out here in AAPK land. Thought it was a rare one, should have known better. Fabulous pile of them. Kudos.
