This one I'm posting to honor our Dobro player that we lost last Christmas, RIP Bud Walls. Bud had the most tasteful fill-in licks of anybody in the business and was a masterful player.

I was reminded of this song by the sermon this morning at church. Jim Lauderdale is an under-appreciated talent.

That's a great one Greg. It's a shame ole Willie sold him the rights to that song for a pittance. Willie said he has no regrets though, cuz at the time he needed the money.

You've heard it said, "If you're gonna play in Texas, ya gotta have a fiddle in the band." But I'm here to tell ya, "nothing says Western Swing like the cry of a steel guitar."

Great posts Greg.

Jerry, my Dad grew up in the Texas Panhandle - he was born in 1936, the year this was recorded. He played in some country and western bands in the late 40s and 50s and they covered a lot of Bob Wills. Dad always played Steel Guitar Rag on his steel guitar when I was a kid.

It's the ring tone on my phone....lol.

Here's one that a good friend of mine and fellow Northern Kentuckian wrote. The song was first presented nationally at the Grand Ole Opry by Joe Mullins and the Radio Ramblers. The song went on to be selected as song of the year by the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music Association (SPBGMA)

Thanks for posting that one T.J. I enjoyed it. Very moving.

Here's one I've always liked. Not a song, but it is western, and humorous.

A little known gem from the real king of country music. I believe it was written and recorded shortly before he died.
