The Swinden patent was granted April 4th 1961, but in order for the patent to be granted there had to be a working model. From what I have heard from people close to the source, they were probably using it in 1960on some models, but the full change over of all Schrade Walden knives was probably after the patent was granted.
Here is a picture of a Craftsman Barlow in pieces.
Note the Swinden key way in the bolster. The Swinden rivet held the two blades and the center liner together.
