Re: Charlie's passion
Okay, this is a great thread, but now it has cost me money! I had no intention of seeking out a harness jack, but a few days ago I came across this one on Ebay. The price was not bad, and it has the clip blade, which I prefer. After reading this story I could not resist bidding. It arrived today, and I have to say that it is a mighty nice knife. The size is good for pocket carry, but plenty big for rough work like cutting thick leather or rawhide. I can certainly see why Charley wanted to bring this knife back to life!

Dave - they call it Sandbar, an acrylic I am told. I could not resist testing that leather punch. It works just as good as it looks.

WLF - that is a beautiful knife! I really prefer the clip blade versions over the spear blades. Looks like yours is just slightly serpentine: or is that just my eyes?

Re: Charlie's passion
That is a beautiful example Lyle!
And yes Dinadan the pattern #66 is a serpentine frame.
After revisiting this thread I realized that I skipped right over HJ #6
So I figured I'd better pick up the slack before Charlie has some words for me.
So here are the knives that make up CC HJ6...
The Red Jigged bone...
The Ebony...
The Interior Ivory...
The Tomato Acrylic...
The Bark Ivory, mark, 1 of only 3 made...
The Bark Ivory, pile
The 3 Bark Ivories, Charlie's pic... I believe the example I posted is the bottom 1.
The #66 pattern is 3 7/16" closed, it has cam tangs on both blade and punch. And the punch was copied, as Charlie pointed out, from an old Case knife.

Dave - Thank you for filling in HJ#6 with such great photos. You used a term I am not familiar with: cam tangs. I am guessing that means that the curved part of the tang does not form a section of a circle with the pivot at the pin.

It just means the tang is round, no half stops.

I think that ivory came from a tusk that Charlie sent Bill Howard. Those bark ivory knives are special Dave.

Thanks Lyle! I agree they are special!!
If I remember correctly you are right about Charlie sending the ivory in to have these made. That won't be happening any more.
