Old Ulster rooster comb or farmers jack

Does anyone see anything wrong with this knife.I have my ideas.

Not sure exactly what it is you think is wrong with the knife.If you mean the color difference in scales,that was pretty common on early knives.I have an early English sportsman's knife that has the pile side some of the most beautiful figured stag and the mark side is almost dead smooth.Color difference is about what this one is.
The scales look like they have shrunk slightly and have a bit of a warp but that isn't uncommon on a near hundred year old knife.Blade steel and spring steel look to be the same general color and the bolsters don't appear to have been tampered with.
If I had to guess I would say it was a nice example of a relatively rare pattern.JMHO

I'll give it a little while,there is something wrong definitely.

Whether or not the knife is right ,I don't know. No the handles are ok in my opinion,they weren't in play.

If you are worried about the ULSTER/NKIFE CO/N.Y. then don't worry.
I have an Ulster jack with that same stamp. It is a legit stamp.

When I got the knife I asked LT about it and he said it was not uncommon.
Either the stamp was made wrong or the stamp they used had movable letters and someone couldn't spell.

The rocker pin is proud on both sides, but I think that is because a lot of that handle has worn away over the years!

Is there anything else bothering you about the knife?

Yes that's not any of my concerns,but you are close.

Come on,you guys are killing me.....

I shouldn't say anything ,I never noticed the error till I got home with the knife.

That's too funny. On the pile side of the secondary blade it's stamped "NKIFE"

The master blade looks like it is hitting the secondary blade in the closed position, the master blade could be a replacement

Both blades are stamped different.

I thought that also.It is not hitting,but it is closer to the spey than any I have.It fits like a glove.
If it's a replacement(which I think is a distinct possibility)the guy was good.

Yes the secondary blade is stamped ULSTER over NKIFE CO over NY.I think it is a factory error,but with the size of the master I don't know.

That's all I know.

I figure a bunch of guys working sometimes have fun. Maybe to make something unique.Just a guessing. Read Orvet's explanation,it's probably spot on.

I remember (as my oldest son says) way back in the 90's, sitting in high school psychology class and my teacher telling us the story about a man who kept returning his brand new truck because of a rattle. It seems that neither he nor the service department could ever figure out where this rattle in his brand new truck was coming from. Finally they tore the thing apart and in the door the found a bundle of wretches tied up with a note from the factory worker who put them there.

It seems in the monotony of doing his job he got the bright idea of hiding those wretches there just to see how long it would take somebody to find them. I wonder if that's the case with this tang stamp? Some worker wondering how long it would take before somebody found it.
