BULLDOG IMITATION ABALONE 2 BLD RABBIT HOUND COPPERHEAD

Post by ironmage »

This knife has no date on it and I cant find much about it on the net.Is it one of the F,Olbertz for Parker KCS knifes? It's got all the other normal marks"hammered blade, hand forged"I just thought all of those where dated on the back of the blade.I'll try to take better pic's and post if I need to
.But I would like a date and a for sure on the maker. Thanks for any help.

That Rabbit Hound was produced in Solingen, Germany at the Olbertz factory. It is a little hard to date, however, the imitation abalone handles were not put on until 1993. If it is a 1993 then it should have either the 1993 date on the tang OR the Surgical Inst. tang stamp. If not then it was made later. There were some knives made in 1994 that did not have the dates stamped, they were of lesser quality that the 1993 knives. That could be what yours is but I would need better pictures to say for certain. It 1996 Bulldog went with the Standing Dog Stamp and then to the Double Dog stamp in 2000. They picked up the fighting dogs again in 2004 but most of those knives are dated on the tang and the abalone was not used with any frequency as it does tend to shriink at the bolsters. So I would say 1993, 1994 most likely, definitely produced in Germany. With better pictures of the tang stamps I may be able to nail it down with a better degree of certainty.

If it has the Surgical Inst, tang stamp then it is a 1993. The Surgical Inst. Stood for Stainless Steel. In the 3rd generation, which was 1993-95, most of the patterns were made 100 in carbon steel and 100 pieces in Stainless steel. The carbon steel knives were marked 1993, while the stainless steel ones were marked Surgical Inst. So you have a 3rd generation knife made in 1993 in a quanity of most likely 100 pieces.
More specifically, your knife is BKC#732 , and 100 of these were made with that handle material and in Stainless Steel.
That should clear it all up. I like those copperhead Rabbit Hounds. They are nice knives.
