Re: WHO actually made that NEW Pocket Knife?
I saw some suspicious wording on the KnivesUSA site for two different H&R congress knives;
Description
Hen & Rooster Knives - Congress Pocket Knife with Cancun Blue Jigged Bone Handles: Model HR322CBJ. 3 1/8in. closed. Stainless sheepsfoot and pen blades. Cancun blue jigged bone handles. Nickel silver bolsters and inlay shield. Country of Origin: GERMANY
Description
Hen & Rooster Congress Two Blade Pocket Knife with Pumpkin Seed Corelon Handles: Model HR-322PS. 3 1/8" closed. Stainless steel sheepsfoot and pen blades. Pumpkin Seed Corelon handles with nickel silver bolsters and inlay shield. Made in Germany.
But all of the fixed blades descriptions say they were Made in Spain except this one;
Description
Hen & Rooster Knives - Bowie Style Fixed Blade Knife with Stag Handles: Model HR-3225. 8 3/4" overall. 3 3/4" mirror polished stainless bowie style blade. Full tang construction. Genuine stag handles with nickel silver bolster. Brown leather belt sheath included. Made in Germany.
Does "Country of Origin" mean the same thing as "Made In" or does it just mean the materials are from that country and it was assembled somewhere else?

Re: WHO actually made that NEW Pocket Knife?
I apologize if this has been mentioned before but are these the only 7 companies mass producing knives
in the US? I really mean the companies actually making the knives.
Bear
Buck
Canal Street
Case
GEC
Utica
Queen
I guess I am referring to traditional knives. I know Benchmade and Spyderco make knives here. Not sure what
the story on Leatherman is. It seems vague.

Who makes the knives for Mooremaker? I was under the impression they make their own?

Re: WHO actually made that NEW Pocket Knife?
For some reason, I had that floating around in my mind too but they don't look like Queens to me. Someone who knows will be along to clear that up.trey wrote:I thought they were made by Queen.
I just went back to Mr. Robert's first post with the list of known makers and found this. I guess I should have reviewed the facts before I opened my tater trap.

Re: WHO actually made that NEW Pocket Knife?
Queen made the first ones, Camillius made them during and after Queen stopped. To my knowledge, Bear and Sons are the only maker of them at present. (I believe this is correct, but I wouldn't bet my paycheck on it.) Camillius made a fine knife for sure, but IMHO, the Queen made Moore Makers were head and shoulders above the rest.
Re: WHO actually made that NEW Pocket Knife?
Does anybody else wish Kershaw would make a traditional pocket knife? (USA made, of course.)

Re: WHO actually made that NEW Pocket Knife?
The above seven companies are it, as far as USA made traditional slipjoints. Colonial Knife Co also shows some as being made in USA but they only have four employeees so I'm not sure what they actually make.trey wrote:I apologize if this has been mentioned before but are these the only 7 companies mass producing knives

Re: WHO actually made that NEW Pocket Knife?
Queen most definitely still makes knives for Moore Maker. I have seen and owned some Queen-made Moore Maker models that had the 2010 year stamp.trey wrote:I thought they were made by Queen.
Moore Maker also had Camillus make some of their knives. Currently they have (in addition to Queen) Bear, Utica, Canal Street, and Boker make knives for them as well.

Just goes to show what I know.
At least I didn't bet my paycheck. I'll go quietly away now never to return again.

Don't forget the USA made Remingtons.
Where are SOGs made? I don't know much about the tactical folders.

The list of manufacturers was for US makers of traditional slipjoints. There are other manufacturers not listed of tacticals and others.garddogg56 wrote:I don't see Kershaw on the list, just looked @ Onions assisted they are made in the USA.

Re: WHO actually made that NEW Pocket Knife?
Well Kershaw does make some "traditional" type pocket knives but I think they are make in Japan. I have a Macho 2120 that I use as an EDC and I love it. They do have quite a few that are U.S. made but most are Assisted type openers. Actually I had a Macho that I bought from a company that I worked for in the 80's but it got stolen and it took me awhile to find one on Ebay. Of course I paid a lot more but when I saw it I had to have it. I copied a link to one like it on Ebay below:http://cgi.ebay.com/Kershaw-Knife-Macho ... 2a0ea81762garddogg56 wrote:YEStrey wrote:Does anybody else wish Kershaw would make a traditional pocket knife? I guess I just haven't kept up on this subject:
I ordered and received a Large Wittler Remington 17547. I had no thoughts it might be made in China. Sure enough it was. Now I have a Chinese knife. Ugh.

Re: WHO actually made that NEW Pocket Knife?
Hmm, interesting thread, good information.
First time I've seen it, though.
Might I make a suggestion to the powers that be........
Other forums have 'sticky' threads that always stay at the top of the sub-topic. Usually forum rules and that kind of thing, but often 'search' topics are kept 'sticky' to make good/outstanding info easier to find and keep updated, rather than getting buried.
Just a thought and my 2 cents worth.....
