1st generation or not??

Post by Rustle47 »

For years I thought I had a 1st generation 3 blade trapper because it had a diamond shield. All the 2nd gens had round bulldog head shields according to the books. Then I found this one on ebay. It was well used, much sharpened and carried, and had a broken blade. But it had all the 1st generation earmarks I learned to look for in the sowbellys. Notice the darker stag, the thin bolsters and the fewer serrations on the nail nick. So - what is the first trapper?

Great observation, there's a lot of Bulldogs out there these days claiming 1st Generation status but few are. This is something every Bulldog fan should observe. Thanks for posting it. ::tu::

Really good obervation. If you compare the pictures of the knives in the old Parker Price guides there is a big difference in the stag. I believe that most, not all, of the stag knives that have the real white coloring nest to the bolster were put together at a later date after Parker owned the company. I bought a collection that came from a BKC early member and they all have the thinner, darker stag.

I have these 2 Trappers. I think the last one is 5 Gen.
Then what is the first knife?
Again see the nail nicks.

Ken, I believe both these to be knives put together in the post 2004 period. They look like super knives. I have some of those that I bought from Hukk that I really like. None of the early knives had the natural abalone.

I have them at work, Ken, I will get them tomorrow and take a few pictures. I also have a single blade 1st generation Trapper that I believe is on the same frame as your second knife. THe only one I have seen on that frame. It is in the books. I will try to remember and take a picture of it also.
