Solingen 1238XVIII knife.

Post by jsolmonson »

I just bought a Solingen knife at an estate sale and cannot find any info about it.
It has a wooden handle and brass bolsters. The number "1238XVIII" is stamped on the
base of the main blade. It has 3 blades total. I am trying to find out it's age and value.
It is looks unused. Can anyone help me?
Thank You,
Joe
My camera will not show the markings clearly. It also has kissing cranes on 2 of the blades
and says "germany" and says" robi klaas solingen". On the large blade it says" unrivaled quality
original solingen" I hope this helps.

Hi Joe,

Welcome to AAPK.

Can you post some good pictures of the knife along with the markings?

That would help immensely in trying to figure out what you have.

Robert Klass, Kissing Cranes, Solingen.

Those are nice knives. Sadly, they are no longer produced. There is a copy of them from China but not equal to those in fit, finish, or quality.

I'd say you have a nice "stockman" pattern knife. You didn't say how big it is closed, but nonetheless, it's a great collectible piece of German cutlery.

No idea what it would sell for. But I doubt that the value of it will depreciate any time soon.

Maybe one of the other boys will drop by with a better idea on the price.

Take care,

Hello Willie,
It's about 3 7/8" long closed. Thanks for the info.
Have a great holiday.

The pattern # gives you all the info that you need .
12 = stockman
3 = 3 blades
8 = wooden handles
XVIII = made 1979

The value would be $40 - $50
