Ray Charles and Willie Nelson -- 7 Spanish Angles
Composed by Willie Nelson, Patsy Cline took this one to #2 on the Country charts in 1962 Crazy
"Ronnie Milsap was one of country’s most popular and influential artists in the 1970s and 1980s. He became country music's first blind superstar, and one of the most talented and versatile country vocalists of all time, flirting with many musical styles rarely attempted by mainstream country performers, including pop ballads, rock n' roll, R&B, blues, doo wop, disco, funk, and gospel. He was one of the most successful country crossover singers of his time." (Wiki) This is one of his doo wop songs Lost In The 50's
Written and recorded by Kris Kristofferson, I could never figure out why I have such a strong mental link between "Why Me" and "Sunday Morning Coming Down". I discovered the following on Wikipedia and it turns out, I'm not the only one who feels that way. "Country music historian Bill Malone wrote,'Why Me, Lord'" - as the song is sometimes known - "may seem greatly out of character for Kristofferson, but it can be interpreted as his own personal religious rephrasing of 'Sunday Morning Coming Down.' In this case, he is 'coming down' not from drugs, but from the whole hedonistic euphoria of the (1960s)." (Wiki) No. 1 on Billboard magazine's Hot Country Singles chart in July 1973 -- Why Me

Seeing you mentioned Texas Ruby, I came up with a couple more names from way back. Uncle Dave Macon and Deford Bailey. Kinda interesting that Uncle Dave never got in to entertainment until in his 50's. Deford was the first black man to perform at the Ryman Auditorium.

Re: Some Of My Favorite Country & Bluegrass Songs
I wasn't familiar with Lew DeWitt's career after he left the Statler Brothers so I had never heard Welcome To The Holiday Inn or Wanda Glenn
Some say Lew DeWitt did not like songs with sexual context and when (rumor has it) Harold Reid insisted they do "Bed of Roses" because "it sells", the die had been cast for DeWitt's departure. Personally, I don't see much difference between his "Welcome To The Holiday Inn" and "Bed Of Roses" but then again, I'm not him. Possibly descension had been brewing for some time???? Bed Of Roses

A song from almost 150 years ago, in some parts of the south and in the hearts and minds of some southerners, it could have been just yesterday. Performed, of course, by one of my favorite artists, Hoyt Axton. Oh I'm A Good Old Rebel
