Remington Photos

The Remington Corporation and the knives that they built have influenced the U.S. cutlery industry more than nearly any other manufacturer. From the time America was settled, to the end of WWI, American knife companies struggled to compete with Britain and German imports, but events that occurred during and after the First World War led to a great change in this phenomenon. Unprecedented opportunities arose, and Remington stepped up to seize the moment. In the process, they created some of today's most prized collectables. In an ironic twist, the next World War played the greatest role in ending the company’s domination of the industry.

Here's an unusual little jack in an unusual color. The knife has the extended backspring on the small blade, it's quite heavy for its size. It has a nice saber ground master. This one is in pretty good condition but the blades have quite a few fine scratches.

It's an R985.

How about a Remington R6723 small sleeveboard whittler. It's in pretty nice shape, the etch is just visible, but you can't see it in the picture.

Here's an old Remington R4483. I thought I'd prime the pump on this thread and see what might show up. This knife is in pretty good shape but has some very light pitting. You can still make out the "Remington" etch.

Could someone tell me what years the Boyscout folder in the second photo was produced? I found one at a flea market over here in the UK. Thank you.

If its an Official Scout, it would have been made somewhere between 1927 and the late 30's.

The scout K7K posted is a model R4B.

It has the long screwdriver blade, no grooves in the bolsters.

Thank you! it has the Boyscout shield so I assume it is an official one. It's pretty pitted but I still think it's a good find.

Of course I bought it. I'll buy nearly any pocket knife when it only costs £2.00 or about $3.00. :D

About how much is it actually worth in that condition? I always buy cheap stuff because I don't know how much the nicer stuff is worth. I'm still in the learning phase for prices and values. My only saving grace is that US brands here in the UK go cheap when I can find them because they don't know what they have aside from the serious collectors.

Need more info.

Any cracks or chips in the handles?

Do all the blades have strong snap?

How deep is the rust/pitting on the blades?

The bail is slightly bent and the punch blade has been tipped.

The snap is weak on all of the blades due to corrosion gumming them up I think.
The pitting is pretty deep (.005"-.0015"), looks like salt water may have been present.
There is one small chip on a corner of one scale at the bolster. No cracks though.
The shield has a fair amount of normal pocket wear
Bolsters show evidence of having been dropped a time or two.

In that condition I would say in the $20-25 dollar range, to a novice collector ::nod::
