Jacks or Better to Open...

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Here's a recent purchase, a green bone Case/Tested XX 6235 1/2 pattern. It's in pretty good shape with just a little rust on the secondary.

I have been told by a respected purveyor of old Case knives, that all of these are Greenbone. Do you agree??

Pen & toothpick, I feel your pain when trying to determine regular bone from green bone. First off, the term "green" is very misleading, it isn't really green. If you have Steve Pfeiffer's book the color on my knife above is just about the same as the top knife in the middle picture on page 75.

Sometimes, it's a little difficult to tell because of the lighting in pictures.

As far as upnorth's knives, to my eye, the top two knives are definitely green bone, the bottom knife, I can't tell.

That ratty old jack has rare wormy old bone! NICE!!

Here's an older XX era "99" with a rare "A" type clip blade. I'm told is was an optional type clip blade. I have a Barlow with one on it as well.

Found this 1997 5299 1/2 Red Stag at the flea market today ( yes---- Wednesday flea market @ Pickens, S.C.)----saw it several weeks back, but he said the price was firm, today we "'UN-FIRMED"" it and I brought it on home with me ::ds::

PS------Owd Wullie, what does it cost to have a knife re-handled??? I've never had one done???? I also saw an eraser, for knife blades?? another new wrinkle in the brain---you guys ever use em' to take spots, off your knives?????
