Dave, I guess beauty is in the eye of the beholder; I think the double pulls really sets off; some of these large knives. That is usually reflected; in the price. I may be wrong; I think double pulls started; with the idea to make knives with big strong springs; easier to open years ago. ::shrug:: I am sure someone here; knows for sure.

Been alot of nice knives to admire since my last post. Congrats! everyone on some real beauties! ::tu:: ::drool:: I like them all, ALOT! :D
Paul, I'm with you. I favor those swedged double pull toes also. Three of the four in my collection have the double pulls. They are alot easier to open.

Yes sir WELCOME Frank!

I'm not an old Timer here or anything but soon you'll know what I like!

I have a knife a lot like yours but it's a two blade and has Bocote Wood on it. I don't carry it often because while it's a bit under 4" long it's fat and heavy! ::shrug::

Not gonna let it go anytime soon.

Paul, Your right on both...a nail nick towards the end of a blade give you more leverage, a must have IMO on knives of this pattern...and yes they thought of it years ago, this
Barnsley Bros is over a 100 years old... 8)

Here are a Cripple Creek stockman, a Bulldog three spring cattle knife, and a Bulldog three blade scout, all made by GEC. I wish I could get better scans of the blade etches.

I LOVE the shape of the Cripple Creek! But I'd like it even better with the blade like the Bulldog!

Yeah, it's not a Spear. But that Bulldog has good chord to the blade.

And Chord combined with Full Flat or Hollow grind makes a great slicer!
