Trapper collecting?

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

I had the entire complete set of prime stag at one time. It was all hand selected for roughness and equal stag. However, I broke it up. I only kept a few favorites. Reid

Nice one Wosey!
I like that chestnut bone from '99...and the 07 is a great pattern, very pocket friendly and useful, half stops are a nice bonus too.

Case 9200 CV 1992 Copperhead Trapper has some really cool acrylic handles.
Case 05254SS 2003 Trapper with beautiful stag handles. I won this knife in a give away by Quick Steel. Thank you Garry.
Case 6254 made in 1974. Purchased from Palidan (Thank you Ray) it's intended as a birthday present for my son since that's the year of his birth.

Jerry, Yes it is mine, and it is my Expeditionary Medal as well. OH
Ps. This is a sensitive area to me (read the book, Stolen Valor by B. G. Burkette). I see awards and decorations, emblems of rank, etc. for sell on e-bay all the time; I see people using military titles they haven't earned, etc. I don't possess any military award, badge, or rank insignia that I hadn't earned the right to wear (not even for use as a photo prop) - with the sole exception of my father's First Sergeant stripes. Eventually I will add a traditional Kabar fighting knife to my collection, but all I have seen so far have "USMC" on the tang and the Eagle-Globe-Anchor emblem on the sheath - I won't buy one until I find a "USA" tang stamp and the Army Eagle on the sheath. Over answered that question, didn't I pardner? OH

Not over answered at all.

I'm in full agreement on the decorations and awards. I came home with three. Good Conduct, Viet Nam Service ribbon (no campaign stars) and the National Defense medal (ribbon). A few years ago, one of the guys I was there with started talking about ribbons and medals and how there were more we were entitled to which came as a surprise to me. I sent a request to St. Louis for an update. It took a year and a half to get the medals and ribbons I was missing and they still were not complete (as evidenced by the updated ribbons & medals of a guy I flew over with on the same plane and left the country with on the same plane). Another request for update including a copy of Tim's paperwork finally got it straight but I refused to display the full set until I had my paperwork in hand.

As for the "Ka-Bar", it's my understanding that Ka-Bar suspended manufacture of the Mark 2 combat knife (or Knife, Fighting Utility) after WWII and didn't restart production until the early to mid '70s and then only for the civilian market. According to what I can find out, after the end of World War II, Utica Cutlery Co., Conetta Cutlery Co., Camillus Cutlery Co., and (beginning around 1980) the Ontario Knife Co. all produced the Mark 2 under contract for the U.S. military with Camillus producing the most during the Mark IIs history (even more than Ka-Bar).

So if you see a Mark II for sale that says it's a Ka-Bar branded knife from the Viet Nam era, run the other way. It's a fig newton of their imagination.

U.S. Army stamp on the blade and sheath on Amazon.com at a fair price -- http://www.amazon.com/KA-BAR-Fighting-U ... B000BSWE9Q

Thanks for your service guys. I did not serve but have a son that did. I am proud to have several good friends that did and they have seen fit to have me as a hunting buddy. I feel honored on every occasion we have together. Even received a couple trappers as a gift from one of them. I will dig up a pic. The Buck slimline and the tiger strip Case full size. It is a 2007 54 Bengal.

I agree, that late 90s-00 Chesmutt handle probly
my most favOritest. Darker the better.
07's half stops on a trapper probably due to it's
original jack kanife origin. ::nod::

Those 00 pattern trapperheads are an interesting variation.
I'd say your 9 prefix means it is imitation black mother of pearl
Apparently an SFO item (avail in various handles) since even Pfeiffer's book
which is focused on regular production does not include the 00 copperhead
alongside the 00 melon tester. Steve did later mention that time & space
limitations had some bearing on content. Anywho......
First one I found was a YO200 yellow bone promo for Cofer Bros. in Tucker Ga.
They had a different Case promo knife made each year and had them all displayed
in a case inside the main entrance.
After I got it home I called Jim Runyon at Case to see if he had any background on it.
Took him awhile to remember it since it didn't come up in his catalogs but when he did
recall the trapper blades with the copperhead handles his comment was:
"oh yeah, that was a strange duck".
2nd one I ran across was with a flea market vendor I had gotten some knives from previously.
Some of his buddies were there debating why the knife had stag handles but had a 6 prefix.
When I looked at it, realized it had a G06200 green bone blade in a 5200 knife.
Figured the good ole boys read the G as a 6 which isn't hard to do.
3rd one I found floating in the Bay with a BK0200 black bone pattern #.
Interesting that the yellow and black just have the letter prefix w/o the 6 for bone
while the green bone blade does have both a G color prefix and the 6 for bone. ::shrug::
I like 'em whatever they are/were/is.

Great information Wosey. Thanks. Even though I'm pretty low on the trapper fan list, I do have an affinity for the copperhead frame and that along with the size of this knife, make me a fan of the 9200.

Just for the record though, after Wosey suggested those handles may be Orange Curly Zebrawood, I checked into it and he's right, that is indeed what they are...!
Still purty though.
