Providence vs Colonial Cutlery Co.

Because I carry a pocket knife, and because my husband likes buying them for me, my friends turn to me for information on knives they come accross. I am trying to get information for a friend on her Providence Cutlery Co. jack knife (maybe a quill knife?). It is a single clip blade and has a yellow calluliod handle with a bottle opener. All computer searched starting at Providence led to Colonial, I gather they were started by the same people but knowing my friend that will not be enough. Any help will be appreciated, I plan to Email Colonial Knife to see what thet know. Thanks

How about a little history lesson?

The Providence Cutlery Co. was started in 1916 by Dominick and Anthony Paolantonio. The business was in Providence R.I. By 1925 they had sold the company to Nicholas Amoroso. They are known for making shell handled knives.

In 1926 three of the Paolantonio brothers, Dominick, Antonio (Anthony?) and Fortunato, started the Colonial Knife Company in Providence, R.I. The company is known for making shell handled knives just like their previously owned company is.

I think it can safely be assumed that Providence and Colonial share a lot of the same influence since they were both started by the same family.

They were two separate companies. I recall seeing the Providence Cutlery plant in Providence in 1985 or 1986. I do not know how lont hey lasted after that.

I have an undated Providence Cutlery Co catalog (probably 1960's). I can see if it has your knife if you can post a picture.
