Re: The Knife Collector's Handbook Books For sale
R.Carl Ferguson Jr. Wanted me to add a few things to the listing:
The book listed here ("The Knife Collector's Handbook") is one of my fathers books. My father collected all the information contained in the book "The Knife Collector's Handbook". There are 2 editions of this book, the first edition has my fathers name and the name of the typist that typed the typed information contained in the books and the second edition has only my fathers name on the front cover (Revis Carl Ferguson).
A little history on the collection of the information contained in these books. My father took my brother and myself with him during the summer months of summer vacation on tours thru the states of Penn., NY.,Va.,and all up thru the old industrial knife factory areas. Dad had an old station wagon and my brother and I would ride along as dad would travel as many back highways and country roads looking for old hardware and general stores. When he would fine one of these old country stores he would stop and go looking for the knife display that most of these stores had. He would buy the knifes and any information like calalogs and even buy the old display cases. My brother and I would take turns watching the car and the contents while dad was bargining with the store owner. When the car would get loaded down to where he couldn't get anymore in it or on top of it we would head home to unload the car. Once we got home he would start saving up for the next trip while he sold the knifes and display cases and he would take the catalogs and pick the pages of information he wanted added to the book he was working on, ("The Knife Collector's Handbook")
On these trips we took with my father my dad would visit any of the knife factories as he came across them. My brother and myself has sat in the car many times watching the car as the factory manager or even the president of Case knifes took my dad on a tour thru the operational knife factory. My dad could make and repair and also customize knifes of all kinds. He would get parts on these factory tours to use in his knife shop.
My father gave the 'co-author' the "Co-Aurthorship" on the first edition books for his typing of the typed pages in the book and had his named listed on the front cover as a 'co-aurthor'. My father had his named removed from the second edition books when he had the second edition printed and only his name and address is on the front cover(Revis C. Ferguson, 229 Vanderveer St.,Middletown,Ohio 45042).
My name is Revis Carl Ferguson Jr. and my mother still lives on Vanderveer St. in Middletown just across the street from the address listed above. I have traveled many a mile with my dad collecting the information contained in this book and have also sat at many a knife shows watching my dad's display of knifes while he was out wheelin and dealin and trading knifes and anything else he could trade.
I'm not my dad but if you would like for me to sign your copy of his book or have me sign a copy of this history of the book to keep with your copy of the book let me know. I can even add inforamation on how my dad taught me to make and customize knifes for his customers and other tales of his adventures tradin pocket knifes.

Re: The Knife Collector's Handbook Books For sale
Hi Guys;
Let me introduce myself. I'm Revis carl Ferguson Jr. Thank you for your interest in my fathers book and Thank You for purchasing your copies. My Mother Thanks You as well.
My father was quite a character as you can probably tell from the picture of him wearing the oversized shoes and top hat with the cane. He would wear those things at knife and gun shows while he was out trading. And while dad was out trading I would sit at dads knife display and watch his tables so he could go out and get more trading material.
And for those of you that have asked for more history on my dad's tradin and travelin I'll try and take the time to sit down and put some of them in this puter. I'm taking care of my 80 year old mother and her sister (my aunt) who is 82 so I'm pretty busy chasing these two women. I didn't know chasing two 80 year olds was so time consuming.
Anyway as I can get the time I'll jot down what I can and send it along.
Thanks again
carl

Re: The Knife Collector's Handbook Books For sale
Hi Gang;
I thought I'd share a couple more pictures of my dads trading and work.
The first picture if I do this right will be of my dad at a knife show I'd say back in the 70's.
Then I'll add a couple of pics of his work. the first will be a case buffalo we worked the back spring and put stag handles on. The next will be a picture of some knifes had gotten ready to take to a knife show. All the knifes in the picture on our coffee table are of knifes dad had put mother pearl or abalone pearl or stag on them to get them ready for the show.
Then a picture of my dad with his brother my Uncle Jr. And then a picture of my mother and Unlce Jr's wire my Aunt Phylis
Lets see if I can get this right, and if I do I'll see about adding a few more pictures later.

Re: The Knife Collector's Handbook Books For sale
Hi guys;
I stopped by the local vault today and picked up a few knifes from the deposit box. I thought I was going set off an metal dector when I left the building.
I just thought you might like to see a few of the knifes me and my dad put handles on. The knifes in these photos are of the Kabars me and my dad carried. I put mine up years ago and I've had dads since before he passed away. If you know of any of the "ole timers" out there ask them 'if' they ever seen my dad do his quick draw of his Kabar hunters. If any of you are interested in that tale let me know and I'll tell it to ya. But he would put his Kabar hunters in his pocket closed and stick them in a styrifoam cup before it passed the guys waist dropped from his shoulder.
Anyway the pictures are of some on my dads work.
carl
p.s. The other knifes in the pictures are also knifes we rehandled. But not the Deer Foot, That was a gift to me from my dad when I was in my teens. anybody ever see one like that one ? anybody got a guess as to who made it ?

Carl,
I just wanted to thank you for making your dad's book available to AAPK members.
This has more pics of Shapleigh Hardware knives than any other source in my library.
I have just scratched the surface of this fine labor of love, but it is very helpful.
